Hydraulic winch set up

I am getting the parts together for my hyd. winch. the instructions I have say I need a 4 way valve, but the winch has a forward and a reverse lever on it. Why a 4 way valve? The way I see it is I need an inline bypass 2 way valve. When I bypass the fluid I can change the lever and reverse the drum. Am I missing something?

Does it operate off the PS pump or another pump? If so, I imagine it needs supply/return to pump and supply/return to winch? Never messed with a hydro winch so I'm guessing...

A hydro steering setup has a 4 port valve. Why would a winch be any different?

I dont know? I was trying to figure it out. I have no clue how to plumb this set up.
