Good choice, Bax. I wasn't going to say anything, but that top just isn't good enough for your rig. You have done one hell of a job on your Bronco, and putting that top on it is like putting a coating of limburger cheese on a gourmet cake. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

Thanks Devin, honesty is a good thing.

Why doesn't anyone like hardtops?
I really like the hardtop look. When I bought my first Bronco back in '95, I ditched the hardtop and put on a kayline top, but my tastes have evolved.

As far as soft tops, I liked the canback.
There is a real need and demand for soft tops in the Bronco community. I was really pulling for Rick to come through and fill this vacuum, I think if he put his heart and soul into it, he could have done it and benefited well. Unfortunately, I think he frightened away too many potential customers. If he came out in the beginning and said that he didn't know how long it would take, and kept communicating any difficulties, then opinions would be different (maybe). I'm sure he is not planning on marketing these things and the tops that are being made to fulfill the initial commitment are suffering from his lack of future interest (i.e. poor welds).

Bax your Bronco is kick-ass, I think any softtop will not look right.

I want one for the summer that is easy to take down and provide shelter in the winter. Hardtops are a pain in a**.

Didn't mean to ask a rhetorical question (or hijack the thread). :)
Well, yeah, obviously, taking it on and off is the advantage a softtop has over a hardtop, but to me, it makes a nice Bronco look cheap (just my opinion).
I take my hard top off in the spring and on the fall, it's not that hard at all to only do it twice a year.

Sorry for the temporary hijack, now back to our regularly scheduled thread....

The hard top is looking better for me. I have a lift system in the garage that makes it easy to take on and off. If I want it off it's no problem. i have a killer A/C and I could lock it better. Still thinking!

The reason the top does not look good on the bronco is because broncos where never made to take showers in. I.E. the rear shower curtain window.

I never liked the look of the top. I prefer the look of a STC top.

That being said, I thought you were being a little over critical until I looked at the pictures of the welds. Yikes!!!

I ran my top by some of the local upholstery houses and they thought that the was actually well stiched and put together for a grand, most said that there cost would be approx double that or they wouldn't touch it. I agree the welds suck but thats what you get when using a 110v mig welder on aluminum. Other than the welds, I still think that my top is the best soft on the market%) I find it rather funny how people that don't really have a dog in this hunt (money) are easy to bash someones efforts in trying to create something new for the bronco community. I will likely have my top rewelded and reinforced in some areas and I personally like the land rover look which is one of the reasons I purchased one from Rick.

I think a hard top would be awesome on your rig. Your paint job is too nice for a soft top ;D I recently went through the hassle of fixing up and putting a hard top and doors back on mine and I love it! Looks way better than a soft top IMO, and I could put a nice stereo in among many other advantages.

Bax, if you are interested I have a personal friend that is an awesome upolsterer and owns his own business in Lakeland. He stays booked up months in advance but I might be able to get you in sooner if you are interested. He is not cheap but I promise it will be exactly like you want it. He can do the canvas part but the framework would be up to you if you choose to use framework. Personally I think the ones that hug the actual rollcage look the best, but again that's my opinion. You can call me anytime and I can put you in contact with him. He had done probably over 200 custom interiors on all kinds of classic cars. He is very very good. Let me know.

Bax, I would have to agree that yours would look best with a recond hard top instead of a soft top.

Ben

I think so too Ben. The soft top is coming off and going in a box. The hard top is coming down from the rafters. I still have a half gal of paint and a bunch of primer. The top is in good shape too. Good to go.

After shitting all over this top it may not sell. If it dosen't it will work just fine on my dads hunting bronco.

Yeah, sorry about that. I never really thought that others may have wanted to sell their tops. I kinda messed that up I guess. Mine is gray, I never thought of you as a collector. They only made 6 of these you know%)

Bax, Im with you on not knowing what top to go with, Hard or soft etc. Your soft top has the shape I like however the windows do look like shower curtains for some reason. Sorry it wont work out for you.
I have an old beat up hard top, maybe I can just use the top portion and make new sides (frames) that have button down canvas flaps.
If you go with a hard top maybe paint the sides the body color of your Bronco and the very top White (ala FJ) Just a thought.

I really like the idea of having button down sides on a hard top, you could sew in the nice double bubble seals that Rick used and would seal pretty damn good.

bax I'm not a collector of the tops but was really just making a joke since alot of people on here are giving the impression that the top won't out las the week. I don't think the top is for you but for someone that was thinking about buying it might be a good alternative since you can fix the welding.

Happy new years to everyone!

Double bubble seals? Where were they?

I know you were joking about buying the top.
