I need help with old kayline top

I have an old Kayline soft top that I took off 2 years ago. I got it all back together but the frame over the doors don't look right. Does any one know where the vertical rod goes at on the bed side? How close to the door post?

I have an old Kayline too. Not sure if I'm going to put it back on. It seems like the new soft tops w/o the snaps are better. Any thoughts?
