I have a direct fit Ididit tilt column from WH mated with a Volante 9 hole steering hub found here: https://www.volantesteeringwheels.com/1964-72-Ford-Mercury-Black-9-Bolt-Hub-Adapter-p/sth1001blk.htm
After 2 hours of fishing wires through the column to install a new switch switch from Ididit, I snapped the lower section of the cancel cam off. I was replacing the turn signal switch because the first one was damaged from the same issue I assume. The first switch didn't break but you can see in the photo the plastic cancel cam bent up and now the contacts underneath don't seat properly. So I am 0-2 with two dead switches now...
I will have to order a new switch from Ididit (again) but my bigger concern is I don't see an obvious clearance problem and this is an expensive trial and error process in both time and money. The weird thing is the cancel cam in both switches work perfectly turning the steering wheel to the right. When I turn the steering wheel to the left I hear nasty crunching sounds and damage occurs. Anyone else running this setup and had good luck? Any theories on this one? More detail in the photo captions.
This is the original switch that came in the column. I thought it may have been defective out of the box but in hindsight I am thinking I damaged it with the steering wheel hub like the second switch below.
This is the second switch I just installed and it snapped when I tested it turning the steering wheel to the left. I activated the turn signal, turned the wheel hearing it pass the cancel cam, then as I turned the wheel back to the right to cancel the turn signal that is when I heard a plastic pop once then on continuation of turning back to the right to straighten the wheel a second plastic pop sound which must have broken it as it never clicked (or popped) again. The right hand signal function and cancellation works flawlessly.
This is the underside of the Volante steering hub I am using. On the first switch I used the cancel cam clip that came with the hub. It looks like this: https://tomsoffroad.com/parts/66-77...40xkYiD6IHvqnyDRztytbZEGUJ3iiSDhoCFY4QAvD_BwE
Since I wasn't sure what bent the original plastic switch cam, I changed out to use there dowel pins to try something different. Same result - broken switch.
