Unless you're going for a smog-check that is, and they have to see the exact timing to the degree. In which case, is yours originally a CA truck, or 49-stater?
Best running (typically) might be in the 10 to 12 range BTDC, but "stock" could have been anything between 4 and 8, depending on the year and whether it was a CA or FED rated rig. As a '76, with cats and EGR, maybe yours won't make any diff where it was delivered? Can't remember.

If I remember right with the 2 vacuum lines to the distributer removed Idle set to 700 rpm and vacuum lines plugged it should be 6 degrees. When you hook up the 2 vacuum lines the retard diaphram will pull the timing back to 0 degrees at Idle.
