Some advice... there are alot of that style of rig on the market for good prices. Pirate4x4, Hardline Crawlers and similar sites provide plenty of eye candy and window shopping.
Building one takes alot of time (if you have it) and won't save you much. My middle of the road project- not really a bouncer/not really a trail rig- has taken 3+ years now.

Also check the FB groups like Rockcrawling classifieds and Rock Crawler Flea Market. I saw a very nice buggy listed the other day that I thought was a deal. Like you said, it's the right one at the right time, and you just have to be there to snag it at that same time!
I have really started loving the lines on these rock bouncers with the long sweeping roof lines. I am the same way with lines on a boat and classic car. Makes me want to get a tubing roller to go with my tube bender.
