Well, I got my new glass cut the other day, and I got my gasket from JBG last week, so now I need to get them installed. You guys out there have any advice for me as to how to get them in without breaking the glass...?

Well this is real easy, get a 1/4 in rope or close. Next put the rubber on the glass on a workbench or the floor, then soak the rope, next center the rope in the grove of the rubber at the top of the gasket and push it in the gasket all the way around on both sides until the ropes meet again in the middle at the bottom. I like to wet the outside of the frame and gasket with a little soapy water in a spray bottle. Now get a freind and set the window in the frame with the ropes on the inside. Having the freind hold the glass up from the outside with a little pressure on the glass where the ropes are, Pull up on both the ropes at the same time Just a little and the rubber will pop up and over the frame, Then with just one rope pull it up slowly having pressure against the glass as the rope moves along the bottom. Go ahead and do this all the way around, you will have to work it slowly in the corners. When you have roped it all the way around and the rubber has transfered to the inside of the frame if it is still not seated flat in the frame in areas then you hit the glass with a FLAT HAND on the area that needs to seat. Wholla Your done.

I ended up using weed trimmer string.. Only thing I could find, and I doubt you can break it!! :) Worked like a champ.. Didn't have to wet the gasket or anything.. Just shoved it in the crack, had a buddy hold the windshied to the front of the frame and pulled the string. I started in the middle, top or bottom shouldn't matter. I'd pull the dash though, will make it easier.

One word of advice, I spent over a weeks worth of nights polishing up my trip (sport model) and forgot to put it in before putting the windshied in the frame.. Going to be REEEALLY interesting trying to get it out now. May have to pull it and start over.

the rope method is what my glass installer used. I let them do it. They came to my place with the glass (i provided the gasket) and installed it for $125 with a lifetime no leak guarentee. luvaduck!!

I've installed glass for over 10 years and that was the way I was taught and the way that i do it. There are different ways that you can do it in substitute but I would recommend that you go with my way. Use rope, Use lube, Soak the rope! I don't want to go into why not to use dental floss or something thin or doing it dry! Good luck!

Merlin:
Who did you get to cut your glass, a local windshield shop? Is it just a flat piece of windshield glass? How did he determine the dimensions, did you provide them or did he use your old windshield? How much did it cost?
Thanks

I roped my new windshield in a couple of months ago, the process is pretty easy but it seems I've got a couple of leaks. Both lower corners let a small amount of water in; does anyone know a good way to fix this problem? The water works it's way between the glass and the rubber and sealing it with silicone doesn't seem like the best way to solve the problem. This picture shows the areas where it leaks.
