Do you guys use any type of windshield adhesive when you install your glass into the rubber and frame? Or does the rubber seal against the glass and frame good enough? TIA.
You shouldn't need any sealant - but if it does happen to leak(usually because the lip on the frame is bent a little, you can use either a butyl or silicone based. You'll want to just use it between the body and the rubbler. The butyl is what a "real glass guy" would use, and is very messy..Honestly, I've set over a thousand windshields (that's how I worked my way through college) and never heated butyl -- Urathane, yes..but I wouldn't use Urathane on a rubber set windshield. Cut the tip off the tube at a 45 - pretty small -- you don't want to use much. Force the tip down between the body and the rubber and run a quick bead all the way around..the bottom will be a little tough. If you use too much, it will squeeze out of the rubber and cause a mess.
As far as the chrome, that's a real beast. The trick is to put the chrome in the rubber first -- using loops of masking tape to hold it in place --- then put the glass in the rubber and then set the windshield in the frame. It's a real PITA! Old Ford Trucks were like that as well..and the crazy sharp/pointed corners don't help much!
