3 local buddy's in our HR club have had excellent, fast payout and no questions asked from Haggert when filing claims... these weren't totals tho and they are your typical "collector car" used on the street.

Every company, every policy is different, and different by State.

For example, I have AAA policies on my home and DD F150. I also have a AAA Collector Car policy on my 1957 Ranch Wagon, BUT they will not allow bundling discounts between the policies. Go figure?

AAA promotes their collector insurance program but would not even consider the appraised Agreed Value policy on my restored 1948 Spartan trailer, yet Progressive had no problem underwriting it.

You have to understand the terms used, then go shopping for a policy that fits your actual needs and price range.

I have Hagerty. I called them and asked for language pertaining to my policy for off highway / off road use. It doesn't exist. I can take my Bronco camping, on dirt roads, and to organized off road events as long as it's not "frequent" use. This was the main reason I have stayed with Hagerty. Other classic car insurance companies have told me absolutely no off road use.

I tried to go with Hagerty about 3 years ago. They asked if there would be any dirt road or camping use. When I said yes they said they wouldn't write a policy.

Maybe it varies by state? Or just whatever agent you get on the phone?

The issue around camping was that the Bronco would not be garaged which is a requirement of the policy. I called Hagerty and asked how that is different than staying at a cabin or hotel and explained that camping is probably safer since you are sleeping right next to the vehicle. Most of the people I got on the phone had no explanation...

I got a few satisfaction survey calls from them and complained about the ambiguity related to some restrictions. Even simple things such as the definition of “road”. A few months later I got a call from a Hagerty guy saying they had loosened up. He basically said they are in the business of insuring collectible vehicles and expect you treat your vehicle as such. Take it on a casual drive on a dirt road and you are fine, but if you roll it on a hill climb, don’t expect them to pay.....it is pretty much up to the adjuster to determine improper usage.

knack, thanks for posting up. Ive got a couple people here on FB and CB list that think I'm full of BS on this insurance thing...and I can guarantee that I'm not. Like you and others have mentioned different states allow different coverages so here in Wa I have been denied the same protection & policies that my wheeling buddies in AZ and CA have. I actually called their agents and had it explained to me.

whatever you do, just get it in writing... you could be cruising along or just starting your rig, get a backfire and your Bronco burns to the ground... if people don't have authorization to be off road, your totalled Bronco wouldn't be covered.

I will call. The only 2 stock items left on my Bronco are the windshield and windshield frame-literally.

Thanks.

UOTE=70 sport WA;3339207]As I recall, when I spoke to them I indicated that mine was “modified” because it didn’t originally come with the 32 inch tires I’ve got on now; The representative said that it didn’t matter, they figure that most every one of these vehicles are not completely original and that wasn’t an issue. It reduced my online quote substantially. You might want to talk to someone there and find out what they consider to be modified or not on your rig.[/QUOTE]

I can only imagine, lol. I didn't mention--nor did I think it would be relevant--that I've got a GM heater blower motor and cage, GM steering column, or aftermarket tire carrier. I don't think they would, either. But maybe a 5" lift or something along those lines might be different.

After I sent a 1/2 dozen pics to Haggerty tey wanted to know how much lift...probably looked like 2' compared to the exotics they insure for a million plu$. lol

When I recieved their proposed policy I saw 2 surprises that we hadn't mentioned in the 1/2 dozen emails and couple phone calls... Limited miles , 2500 if I remember correctly-I could look) and stored inside at night in a locked garage.

I would need to talk to them about miles as just driving to the Con and back is appr 2200 miles! :)
