What do some of you guys do for insurance. Right now I just have regular comprehensive on the bronco and it is kinda expensive. I would like to get it insured as a classic car as I probably drive it less then 5000 miles a year and heard that you just set up a value with them for the value of the car and if anything happens you get that value without a big hassle. Just wondering who some of you guys used for classic car insurance and if they are good or not?

I think some of the guys were getting it from state farm. Most of those classic specialty insurance co's don't like to insure 4x4's. I use AAA, but don't have a specific dollar payout on mine.

This has been covered a lot so if you want more info, do a search. I will share my experience and what I can remember from other posts.

-Classic insurance is hard to get for a lifted vehicle or a vehicle that goes off road, or a vehicle that gets over 1000 miles a year. I don't think anyone here has been successfull with that.

-I am surprised you comprehesive is so high. Comprehensive is based what the insurance beleives it the value of the vehicle and will decrease over time since depriciation is assumed in any normal policy. When I set my insurance up, they asked me how much I paid for the car and they used that value. For that reason, I only got liability. I have USAA and pay $350 / 6 months, use a 97 Saturn SL2 that is fully covered and my 68 EB, 27, no points.

-Some insurance companies will let you put any value you want on the vehicle.

-Some insurance companies for non-classic policies still will not insure a lifted vehicle.

I have classic insurance on my 68 mustang. It is very limited on where i am "suppose" to drive it. I am not suppoe to drive it for errands or work etc. It is only for shows and other related types of things. It is also very limited on how many miles I can drive. The good news is I only pay 86.00 for year.

I have USAA (not everyone can use them.. have to be or be related to a military person).... they have a cool philosophy about the value of old cars... the computer pics a premium price for the vehicle, but if I ever total it... the adjuster comes out and will determine value then.. if I have reciepts.. and I have plenty of those... I get a replacement cost based on those values too... so since I have at least 9k in reciepts... I would get about 9k for replacement. Not that bad and it is full coverage with higher liability rates (100k/300k) for about $300/yr.

That is not what USAA told me. They said they would consider receits but would not guarantee anything. As I said up top, they would only insure it for the value I paid for it and will depreciate it. Still, USAA is a great insurance company.

Man, I can't figure out how you guys get these cheap rates. I have a escort, Superduty, RV and the Bronco on the policy and the Bronco has minimum insurance and they (Allstate) charge me $900 a year. I have no points or accidents and we have homeowners with them also. Maybe it's because we live one town outside Philadelphia? I have to call the insurance guy Friday and see whats up!
