Intake manifold gasket with valley pan?

That's for a 351M/400. Do you have a 351W? If you have an M, yes you need it. If W, it won't fit anyway!

Many of the older Ford V-8 motors had valley pan intake gaskets..and for good reason..IMHO. However, the cost of them quickly resulted in cheaper gasket solutions.

I have a few NOS Ford valley pan gaskets on the shelf..including for the 351W.

The one in the link is for a WIndsor. Rectangluar ports. Oval ports would be for a 351M/400

The main purpose is not to shield the hot oil off the intake to keep the intake cool, it's purpose is to keep the oil from getting baked & burned by the bottom side of the exhaust passage. If you block off that passage, it's not necessary.

Confirmed, yes I have a 351W this gasket set is for a Windsor. Info says for over 8500lbs, would that mean an 351w in an F350, or U-Haul truck of sorts.

It is a little more than twice the price, maybe worth it, if keeps carb/intake temps down?

Gaskets with "no cross over" or beer can cut-out plugs....

Yup ! If you've got an aluminum intake you value, best to block em off and save it from gettin a case of cancer. Seen a few vintage Ford FE intakes that suffered from this. Fortunately I saved them just in time. ;D

I think they're a good idea. The original intakes already have a pan under the crossover, but in high GVW trucks Ford went to the extra expense to reduce heat soak issues in the Holley. Early Broncos in hot climates can use any help we can give them. I tried the crossover block off gaskets and the engine ran poorly until it got warm and fuel economy suffered, so I wouldn't recommend it.
If I were running a 428 PI or 427 sidewinder, erosion of the crossover by exhaust gases would have to be considered. A lot of these high dollar intakes are already eroded. In '68 I bought a '66 Ill. state police cruiser with the 428 PI for $750. Never worried about the intake. They were $20 in the junk yards. I was having too much fun embarrassing muscle car owners.
The vulnerability of aluminum is another reason a use the '69 cast iron 4bbl intake.
The Felpro pan type gasket for the 351w was only about $30 last time I bought one. That's not going to break the bank.

All vans that I have worked on had this type of intake gaskets. I always figured it was to help control heat transfer to the carb.

I don't drive any of my toys enough for fuel economy to be a concern. And the driveability concerns of a couple extra minutes isn't a deal breaker either.
