Great advise snipes.
should I look to add the 300m inserts to my Warn 30 spline hubs or put the money to a second set of Warn hubs?
I like being able to disconnect them vs spending $250 on the lockouts.

Knew a guy who wheeled a Sami in the Dusy-Irshim region of KA on those in a 36" R15 size. He usually ran without valve cores in the stems. He'd just loosely put a plastic cap on the stems and called it good!

Lockouts are nice, but on a trail rig I don't see any reason not to run flanges, except for if you have a spooled or welded front end. Jeeps haven't had hubs in about 35 years...

Post up some pictures with the Swampers once you get them mounted. They'll be a huge stup up in performance over the surplus tires!

Keep in mind that Jeeps w/o locking hubs have other ways of "unlocking" the front axle. I'm afflicted with an axle of that design under the front of our CTD.

That particular design disappeared in 97 for Jeep and 03 for dodge/ram. Jeep is still not using a disconnect but ram reintroduced that design in 13

I ran flanges for a long time until Yukon introduced their lockout. If I was still running a 44 in a trail rig I still would be running flanges. But in my opinion a 44 in an even moderately used trail rig is just throwing money in a fire, Fire might be better at least it will keep you warm.

I picked them up and have not mounted them yet but I am a bit shocked how narrow they are. I have a set of 35x12.5/17 on my 1977 and 37x12.5/16.5 on my trail rig and they are so much wider.
These are 38x12.5/16.5 but why are they only 9" wide?
Did they use the wrong mold?

They will still work so much better than your old tires. Also remember that tire was designed in back in the day to meet a size specification for NMRO mud racing.

I got my last set of SX from national tire and wheel and one was unacceptably shorter than the rest. They took it back and sent me one that was closer. I figured they probably had so many in stock that they came from different runs that were spaced really far apart, but maybe they are just that inconsistent?

I may mount one today and see what they look like.
I did some research and found the same tire in a 38.5x14.50-16.5LT size. According to the specs, the 38.5 tire actually measures out at the same height as the 38's I just bought but 2" wider.
The 38x12.5 I bought measure out to 38.5 but the 9" to 10" narrow width bugs me.

I may be unnecessarily freaking out. I measured the outer most lug edge on my 37x12.5 BFG's and got 9" 3/4".
The TSL outer most lug edge measures out to 9" 7/8", almost 10".

The lugs are so aggressive that it make the tire look “skinny” they really aren’t it’s just an illusion. That tire and the 38.5 were designed to work together front to rear for mud racing.

Wow, I know video doesn't do things justice, but I can't believe how easy that shaft broke Maybe RCVs aren't as strong as people like to make them out to be ?:?

I have seen 4340 Chromos with Super Joints take way worse beatings and live. What happened in that video is about what I'd expect from stock shafts. It seems odd that RCV waranties their shaft for 40s if they break that easily with 37s. It makes me wonder if there wasn't something wrong with that particular shaft.

Perhaps it was weakened before.
I broke a D44 shaft on a simple obstacle once but it was on a shaft I had previously broke a u joint on.

Yeller was right.
The tires looking narrow is an illusion. When I measured the outer edges of the tread from side to side they are 10" and 3/8" at the widest.
I have a set of 35x12.5 and 37x12.5. Both measure at or under 10" of road contacting surface.
