iPod Touch as a Stereo???

Hello All,
I've got a question about using an ipod touch as a stereo... how does it work? Can it be used by itself or do you have to use it with something else? Meaning are there some marine systems that use the ipod as everything?? I will be running 6 speakers and 1 of those small Rockford amps. Just guessing but I just cant figure out how you have balance, fade, volume control and all that without having some type of a head unit.

Thanks,
Matt

I have a simple amplifier mounted on the firewall up under the dash. I run my sirius radio and my android phone directly into the inputs using an RCA to headphone plug cord and it works just fine. Its really as easy as that if you don't care about playing CDs or getting FM reception. I have two 6x9s in panels I made in the bed rail section and it sounds okay for my purposes. Would like to add a sub one day.

I think at the end of the day I will just end up using this:

would love to use this and keep alot of my electroncis kenwood but the reviews are not so good:

You look around on the net long enough you can get some great electronics deals.

I think what the aftermarket is missing is the ability to have volume, fader, balance and also have the treble, bass and mid controls.

If we were talking F150 or an FSB there is tons of ways to get it all hidden and tucked away but the EB as we all know is just a super real estate poor vehicle that requires lots of patience and planning for it all to work out right. After doing some work on a 78 its nice to have a little more room :)

I don't know if this is useful to you but figured I would throw this out. Here is what I used in my bronco http://classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=226674 . I don't listen to the radio that much but what I am finding is that I use the USB port all the time. It powers my GPS, Contour Roam2 video camera and will recharge my cell phone. It has been very helpful to have that flexibility on hand.

Water Proofing my Crutch field radio a few years ago .. My leaking wind shield frame had got my 1st Radio .. So I took about 3 sheets of HD Aluminum foil formed it over the top and left it open on the bottom . I don't like this radio but it still works .

out the other end of PolyPlanar speakers and a Bazooka subwoofer imbedded in my console... Sounds great.

these are less than $10 now too, so you can skip the wires all together if you want. granted there are better quality ones out there,

or better yet, if your phone has NFC

You don't need to run a head. 90% of my customers run from digital media player directly to an amp.

Or many like the audio locker:

You can use one of these to control volume if not running a head:

If you're running multiple amps and want to be able to fade and us multiple surfaces, get a cheap Equalizer. Marine one's are too expensive. You can get a $25 one and maybe replace it every couple of years.

Mines been rained on and covered with dust a bunch and still workin fine. I wasn't even running a marine amp a OCBR and it held up fine and we got poured on at the end.
