Is there a trick to getting WH headers in???

I have a 74 w/302 and I can't for the life of me get the WH full length headers in there. I've tried from the bottom and the frame is in the way. I've tried from the top and the steering linkage is in the way. I was trying this by myself so maybe I just need an extra two arms. I asked the sales guy at WH when I bought them and he said they would slide right in there w/o moving or jacking anything. Either I need a pointer or two or just more beer. Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks alot,
Brian

I installed the painted black duffy headers they resell and I recall it was a bit of a pain in the ass on the driver side. I know another guy locally who put the ceramic coated headers from duffy in and he said the driver side also sucked. I roated them and messed with them quite a bit, an extra set of hands on top might help when your shoulders start burning. I think the only way to get them in is from underneath. Have a beer and go for it again. ;D

When i had the long tube headers i had to remove the driveline and put the driver side in through the bottem Was a tight fit but they went in and once they where up in there you could do everything from the top.

My W/H headers just slid right in from the bottom. I had a 3.5 lift at the time with no body lift. One side was harder than the other. I had someone to help by installing a bolt from the top.

Yeah--It's the drivers side I'm having problems with. I guess I'll unhook the driveshaft tomorrow. What a pain in the arse. Why can't anything be easy???? I figured the hardest part would be to get the 29 year old original manifolds off but they backed off easy with a little PB Blaster and some heat. Thanks for the replies everyone!!
