So the bronco is here and I'm beyond excited, now I need to devise a plan of action. I recently installed a new power plant and there is a loud ticking when running. I've narrowed it down to the fuel pump by removing it and feeding gas directly into the carb. I took the eccentric off of the old motor (1st picture) and put it on the new motor. now the timing chain cover won't go back on. please take a look at these pictures and point me in the right direction. Also included is a picture of the timing chain cover (which is off of the old motor) the eccentric from the new motor gouged a circle into it. the slim eccentric is off of the new motor and the circular one is off of the old.

So, the question is how can I make this setup work? I'd rather not go to an electric pump, but if it's going to be the easiest I will. There's got to be some way to make the pieces I have work.

Was the one that was ticking a single or a double eccentric? Why Im asking is the timing chain top gear is different for a duoble eccentric.I had my 302 rebuilt and it used the single eccentric but the timing chain they got was for a double eccentric so they had to get a different timing gear set to work with the single eccentric.

I'm not sure which one is which, I assume the double is the one that is a full circle? If so it was ticking with the single (the slim one) I haven't been able to test with the full circle eccentric on the new motor because the timing chain cover won't fit now.

The one that is on the motor in the pictures is the one off of the old motor. (hope that's not too confusing)

I can also go out and take pictures of whatever, if it'll help.

And is there supposed to be a dowel or something else holding the eccentric in place?

Well,
I had a double ring eccentric and went to a single and did not have these problems.
But on my old 302 my cam walked around and my eccentric grinded on the timing cover a little.
Went with a Windsor swap after that so I can add much more to the subject.
But I have definitely used both eccentrics on the same motor but with a Summit Racing double roller timing chain if that makes a difference.

So what is this part? this is what was on the new motor when I put it in and it was still pumping gas. it just made a god awful noise every time it came around and smacked the fuel pump arm. I've seen the double and single eccentrics, but not one of these.

That piece goes inside an eccentric. The bolt coes thru the big hole and the small square hole is suposed to have a tab on the back of it. That tab fits in the cam gear hole. A lock washer if you will. The pin in the cam is recessed in the gear about 1/4'' on this design

Awesome, thank you, Bax. So It would be safe to assume that if this was all that was on the motor that they were running an electric fuel pump? My timing chain cover won't fit over the 1 piece eccentric from the old motor. How would a guy remedy this? New timing gears?

May I ask why 3/16"? Is this a problem other people have had? I don't understand why the fitment is different on a 302 from the same time period as my old one. (Old was `69 new is `72)

some pictures that may help. I personally think that you should use a short one piece eccentric. I even found a picture of the old one you have. and I have to say it the one in the picture is installed correctly, thats just stupid. I thought the one you have, fit inside of the eccentric. Looks like I was wrong but that design sucks. Try and find a short one.

Yeah I don't have any idea how the one that was on my motor is supposed to work (quietly) I'm trying to find a machine shop now that will take some off of my one piece
