JBG Disc Brake Kit?

I purchased the front disc brake kit from JBG mainly because it has full coverage brake backing plate. Some others like WH just have a v-shaped caliper mounting bracket. After the figuring out which axle bolts, washers, and grinding, knuckle and backing plate grinding I finally got everything installed. With the new Warn premium hubs they looked great. However, it wasn't until after I installed the left wheel that I noticed the top part of the backing plate where the caliper mounts was bent upwards and rubs the wheel in a couple of locations when spinning. The right wheel has about 3/8 to 1/2 inch clearance in the same area. Comparing the two side the right side is parallel to the ground and the left side is bent upwards.

Anyone experience this? I can either try to bend this back down or get JBG to send another backing plate. Note that the bend is in the heavy part of the plate and mounts the caliper.

re: JBG Disk Brake Kit

I had the same problem with my kit from JBG. On my kit, the passenger side backing plate was not completely round and bent like yours. I attempted to bend it and also took a grinder to it for a while before it cleared the wheel enough so the wheel would even turn.

I ended up putting some wheel spacers in behind my wheels to give it some additional clearance.

I didn't bother calling JBG since the wheel spacers took care of it, but based on some responses on the board, I don't think JBG would've been much help.

I'm going to try to get another plate from JBG before I start bending and grinding. I'm worried that I could get things out of alignment and cause binding with the caliper movement. Let's see what they come up with.

Yeah I would suggest sending it back. With the amount of time and money invested you shouldn't need to do anything other than bolt it on.

I know its more expensive but I am thinking about going with the kit from bc broncos just because of these issues. Brakes are one of those things you really do not want to go without. Alot of cutting and grinding sounds like places for future failure to me.

You guys were right. I got an e-mail back today from JBG customer service and they stated the back plates are all the same and that you just have to bend it over for clearance. They may be right but I didn't pay for a "bolt on kit" I have to hammer on to get it to fit.

I'm just getting all my suspension and frame components back together on a frame-off but will probably be looking elsewhere for the rest of the build.
