So it sounds like November 1st is good for everyone. Seeing as some people are not set up for the harder trails it sounds like maybe Kilbourne Hole, Doña Anas, Coralitos Ranch, or Modoc might be in the running. Also, depending on how far people are willing to drive, Monticello is a fun and easy run.

So far there is one vote for Kilbourne.

.. Sorry to ask But where is the location for the El Paso run location. going to be .
.. Me & Running Buddy are headed to New Mexico about that time to go on our own wheeling trip .. We go hunting on a ranch in New Mexico for a week. This Ranch is about 100K ac. & we're normally the only 2 guys on it. 90 % of it you could some how get around it in a 2wheel drive .. But I'll say about 30 % of the time we are in 4x4.
.. I think we're about a week later than you guys ..

Here are some pictures of the places I am suggesting:

Corralitos

Modoc

Doña Anas

Monticello

I don't have any pictures of Kilbourne hole, but there are plenty online.

The run location is still to be decided, but it will probably be closer to Las Cruces than El Paso.

Did somebody say "kilbourne hole"? That's one of New Mexico's premier volcanic sites you know. Mantle nodule collecting. Awesome steam blast type volcano. I need some modern pictures of that area. Not too excited about rock crawling just to rock crawl. Get to do that often enough when I don't want to. But Kilbourne Hole, now we're talkin'.

Bump again.

Someone asked me if the area we're going to got shut down thanks to Udull and Hindlick? Couldn't answer, any word? They mentioned that the Chili Run was called off because of that. Updates please.

We are looking at Nov. 1st. I have not heard from others, but probably sometime in the morning, say 10:00. We could meet up at the Sonic on Main St. again if that is cool with everyone.

The Area is not shut down as of yet, but it is a future possibility. Chile Challenge went great, I just got back from it. It was staged out of Caballo since there are a lot of new trails up there this year.

Is there enough room there for trailers? There are 2-4 of us coming down and we all have trailers or is there room at the trailhead? Thanks,
Looking at google earth it looks like there is a large field right behind it, perfect!

There is a dirt area behind the Sonic where you could park with trailers.

Kilbourne Hole seemed to get the most interest, so that is where I was planning on going. There is a a cool short canyon on the south end of the Robledos we can run afterwards if anyone wants to put their rig into 4 low.

Well, I certainly wanted to go, but this weekend is one of those when everything else wants to happens. If you go to Kilbourne Hole, collects some mantle nodules for me. Since I can't be there, here is an interesting automotive analogy that only gear heads can understand: Those nodules are there because of reversion in the magma column is just like an exhaust pipe. Every time there is a steam blast explosion at the surface (Kilbourne is a steam blast type volcano where the magma interacts with the water table), the negative pressure wave travels down the column and unloads the pressure at 20 km, the walls unload and dump a ton of mantle rock into the column, which then gets entrained and brought up. Just like reversion in an exhaust pipe. Just sayin'. Now you know something that most volcanologists don't. Ha!

Will they be okay at Sonic if we leave the trucks and trailers on that lot all day?

I personally would not leave my truck and trailer there, but I do not know what the Sonic people would say. I would leave my truck and trailer at the trail head.

I am actually Rob's son posting through his old account. He still is shamelessly cruising in the LJ he bought two years ago.

Could we get a head count maybe of who can make it and who cannot? I would be open to rescheduling if that means more people could make it out.

It won't be as much fun if it is only me and a couple of other guys :(
