Leaky heater core + Vintage Air questions

hey all,
I just purchased a 69, and I just discovered the heater core is leaking. I also received a brand new Vintage Air AC kit with the Bronco, and I was wondering if I can install the V/A heater box/core without the rest of the AC system in the meantime, since I'm not ready to do the full AC install yet.

If not, where is the best place to buy all the needed parts to replace the original heater core? Also, are there any simple mods to make the heater more efficient?

thanks!

%) %) %) You should be able to get the core at any parts house. That core fit bronco's 66 to 77 and most of the f1/3 pu trucks 67/72. easy fix good luck. %) %) %) Bill :p  %)

not any reason why u cant install the under dash part of the VA ac unit and not connect all the ac stuff. But on the VA system all the valves and diverters are electrical. so if your not ready to hook up the electricals on it, go with a new heater core till u are and do it all at once.

My heater core is leaky too and I am bypassing it for now. I think it is a waste to even have heat because it just fogs up the windows and when it starts to get too hot the ac just blows hot air so I take the top off or roll down the windows and hang my head out the window ;D Good luck with yours! I am off to the local parts store

Got mine from NAPA (there seem to be a lot of those parts stores around just about everywhere)...cost $24, by far the cheapest I found. It was an exact match with the one that came out, which was good since there are a ton of different models out there and the inlet/outlet tubes can sometimes be too short (so I've heard).

On a related note, I put a new core in today. Went smoothly enough. Noticed that the tube closest to the fender came out with only an inch to spare between the tip and the wheel well. In this case I needed it shorter! Also noticed that the PO cut about 3/4 off the old core tube to accomodate this. I had to do the same...not a big deal, a $5 cheapie, small tub cutter did the trick once it was installed. I'll post pics in a day or two.

I've heard and experienced that when the core is leaky, the windows will fog up....so perhaps it would be worthwhile to put a new one in?
