The best one? thats gona be a weighted question dube!

8000lb seems common

removing it would be cool but youd need super long cables.

my dad and bro both got the new warns with rope line last christmas.

If you have one of the last issues of bronco driver look at the article about the black pearl bronco. There front bumper looks like a normal winch bumper but the winch and mounting plate and fairleed is all one piece and removable. Pretty damn sweet!!

On the trail you see all brands and all years so i dont think it matters as long as its a name brand....warn, ramsey, superwinch. Hell you might even be happy with a harbor frieght one for what you need:p (Mr. Im never going offroading).

What would you even need a winch for? My dad has been to like 30 jeep jamborees and numerous other trails and have never used his. He only bought it so they will let him on the hard trails.

8,000 should be plenty for an EB. Remember, you can run a snatch block and double the pulling strength if you have enough cable.

I have a friend who has front and rear mounts with quick disconnect wiring. It has come in handy.

I have the m8000. I just got it for a hell of a price so i haven't used it yet. If i had money to spend i would personally get the warn 9.5xp. I have been eyeing that one for the longest time until i got the m8000. From what i hear 8000 lbs is enough if you want it as an emergency back up.

with a 8000lb you could hang two of your broncos from a tree dube! I bet my bronco weighs less than 4000lbs with the glass tub. You dont want too big of one or the line speed is too slow i think?

I'd lean towards an 8,500, like 70_Steve says you might not always just be winching "yourself" out of a situation.

that being said my brother has used an old warn 8274 on his 84 ford P/U to pull out a dump truck before..

Snatch blocks and anchors are great, when you are close enough to attach them to something! If you don't your 8,000 pound winch 'may' not be enough to overcome the force needed to pull you out? I buried a 3/4 ton Dodge in sand once and a 15K pound winch couldn't pull me out... If you already have an 8,000 pound winch use it, but if your buying new, its what $50 more for a 9500 pound winch?

Isn't the first wrap the weakest, I thought the more wraps the stronger. Of course I think backwards a lot. I would assume they would rate the winch based on the first wrap because that would be its weakest moment so to speak.

Maybe I'm the one thinking backwards, I thought it's greatest pulling strength was based off of the first wrap of the drum.............I'm going to have to investigate that one;D

How the Winch Reacts to Load.
Warn winches are rated by pulling capacity. The maximum pulling capacity
occurs on the first layer of wire rope on the drum. As the layers increase,
the pulling power decreases. It’s the mathematics of winching.

Example
Warn M8000 12V DC PERFORMANCE SPECS
Line Pull---------Line Speed---------Motor----------Pull by layers
Lbs.(Kgs.)-------FT./min(M/min)-----Current---------on drum
0000 (0000)------30.2 (9.20)-------080 amps-------layer/Lbs(Kgs.)
2000 (0910)------14.2 (4.33)-------200 amps-------4/6230 (2826)
4000 (1810)------09.9 (3.02)-------285 amps-------3/6670 (3026)
6000 (2720)------07.3 (2.22)-------350 amps-------2/7280 (3302)
8000 (3630)------04.8 (1.46)-------435 amps-------1/8000 (3629)

simple tork= small dia. has more tork then a bigger dia. just like tires so to speak 410 gears smaller tires will have more tork then bigger tires.

If your 15k winch couldnt pull you out you were doing something wrong. Sand has no suction like mud does. I could have probably gotten you out with a shovel and a highlift. If your gona splurge for a 9500 then why not a 12000?

You have to tell us what you plan on winching dube? For most cases any size winch will work and any brand will be fine. If you plan on pulling out stumps you might want a big one. It would be nice to have a small winch for pulling folks out of the ditch this winter.

I sunk a 3/4 ton burb to the running bords in Green lake years ago on new years eve. We called a tow truck and the guy spent 2 hours trying to get it out and that was with a huge tow truck with a boom. He couldnt get it to even budge! He gave up and left and didnt charge me a dime because he didnt do anything. The next morning we came back and had it out in 10 min with a jeep and a old winch. Sometimes you gota be smart and think things over. Brains over muscle in this case. I got it out and drove it home and never had any problems thank god!
