You have to tell us what you plan on winching dube? For most cases any size winch will work and any brand will be fine.

I really do not know what "most cases" are, but for true use when serious or "hardcore" wheeling is involved, most any size or any brand is not the answer you will get from those of us who have been doing it for years.

Even for a well equipped trail rig that sees regular use that would still apply IMO.

I have wheeled all around the country with lots of other hardcore wheelers and you will typically only see 2-3 brands of winches on the trail and 8K is considered the minimum with the newer 9.5's now being preferred for vehicles the size of a Bronco or Jeep. Much more is not really needed.

There are other options I would consider for a utility winch on a trailer, but for self recovery out in the middle of BFE, most people I know who wheel regularly do not trust the econo imports.

I agree broncitis.

When i say most cases im thinking of all the Heeps running around with a winch that never leave the tar. If its gona be used in hardcore wheeling then yes there are only a few i would consider. If its for looks then anything will work.

We dont have much hardcore wheeling anyware near minnesota really. A few trails up north but a winch is not gona be needed for them. Id say a better investment would be a snatch strap for dube! JK:p

Dube, if you want to run some trails i plan on heading up to gilbert and evelith in a few years with my bronco. Maybe im wrong but i thought you said your bronco is a tar baby!

Heres a few old beaters for ya....

no way!!! i just looked outside and its black! Maybe in the morning it will be a different color? Hey somebody has to play the devils advocate. Im just glad you can shrug it off and move on. Trust me....i been called a idiot on here more than once, but my brothers cant hurt my one single feeling that i still have left.

I wasnt arguing i just said if you got stuck in some sand and a 15k winch couldnt get you out you were doing something wrong! you got out didnt you? I could help you go back and get it out if you need?;)

And whats wrong with JBG? They get my vote as you know:p

simple tork= small dia. has more tork then a bigger dia. just like tires so to speak 410 gears smaller tires will have more tork then bigger tires.

Is that because the circumference increases and therefore same force plus larger distance of rotation equals shorter force vector at the tangent line of the circle?

Trying to wrap my math trained but engineering training deprived brain around this one.

At first I thought wouldn't it be stronger as the lever angle is higher (center of the circle is force, radius of circle is the lever length), but this explanation seems to make sense too. Why doesn't a longer lever apply here?

I had a 12000 Engo on my 4 door jeep. It was $419 shipped I thought it was just for looks but that thing was awesome. Petersons 4 wd rated it right with the warn. They liked the warn better because of the packing. The Engo out pulled the warn.
