i am no where near being able pull a trailer let alone drive my bronco yet. its still getting rust repaired. but i was toying with the idea of getting some kind of trailer for camping ( the dream would be an airstream). i will most likely be building my EB on the stock side with a stock height ride and a massaged 289 with probably a 4od and the dana 20. i was wondering what would the tow capability be and how does that equate to trailers? any thoughts or tips would be great.
thanks in advance

Safely??? 2500lbs tops and that is with disk brakes at a minimum. I used to tow my 1900lb tent trailer with full gear in mine. It did okay, but an Airstream is not going to be small enough.

My 73 owners manual say 2000 lbs. max trailer weight with the 4500 lb GVW. with tongue wieght of 200 lbs. max.
Depending on what package your 67 has check rear axle do you have a small bearing axle or big bearing. If you have the small bearing axle with the small 10" brakes I wouldnt tow anything much over 2000 lbs. if you have the big brakes then a little over 2000 may be ok. I second the front disc brake suggestion also. depending on what gearing your axles have you may be asking for tranny trouble with heavy trailers.

I pulled a pop-up across the country, weight was about 2k loaded, it was OK. Bronco setup manual brakes, drums, 4;11, lockers and 33" tires. Stopping was Ok as long as the brakes were in good shape & adjusted properly.

well the plan for brakes are disk up front and budget willing disk in rear as well. as for the rear axle it is a small bearing with the stock gearing and originally there was no plan to replace them but is that something i should consider? as for size i have seen a few "teardrop" airstream types. dont know if they were the real deal but that dosent matter. i just wanted something that myself and someone else could sleep and eat in while tooling around the states at a slow pace.
also the plan was to use a stock rear bumper and add a hitch. should i be looking at a different setup as well?
thanks again for all the great info, i really am just starting to think about this and therefore had no reasearch done.

73stallion, out of curiosity (as i dont think i am ready to buy just yet) what is that trailer going for and are there any online photos. so i can start to get an idea of what im up against. some things seem to cost more in CA than in other parts of the country.

Wow plan on doing the same thing with mine with the same goal of a 21' tandem wheel. Broncos are not great for heavy load towing long distance, although they can tow heavy things out of weird and difficult places. They do have a short wheel base that makes traveling difficult long distance, but you can parallel park "USS Poseidon"

Ive done alot of research on the matter of what I would like to have as you will see below;

I'm finding airstream used look a likes all the time (bolle') and company's that sell refurbished airstreams. I found out that most airstreams start at 3500 to 4500lbs for a 2 to 4 person camper a 4 to 6 person camper 4500 to 7500lbs.

The Airstream Bambi from the QuickSilver edition starts at 3500lbs @ 16ft

The New Airstream Basecamp (The answer to the tear drop rage) 2,000lb @ 16ft (kinda looks like a decked out horse trailer)

Just be sure whatever you decide to get has trailer brakes then there will be less problems with the trailer trying to pass you when forced emergency stop occures.

I truthfully wouldn't tow much more than a small boat with an eb...but as to "how much".. My grandfather bought a stripped out singlewide for his hunting camp years ago and the hauling company didn't want to take it the last mile down the dirt roads... Anyways, luckily his eb had a 1/4" channel iron bumper. ;D Wish I had pictures.

I've towed some questionable things with my Bronco before and it's not that bad. As long as you have horsepower and brakes. A hydroboost and trailer brakes really help the process of stopping along. I think it's all about driving style more than vehicle size. There are some people who are jerky and can make towing a trailer behind an F350 unpleasant.

I agree with good brakes on the Bronco and trailer brakes (adjusted properly) are a huge help. A locker in the rear and a soft suspension is real dangerous combo towing.

I have one of these http://www.kingkampers.com/kamper/overview.html , which is designed for going offroad with a short wheelbase vehicle and it's still a bear at highway speeds.
