The PO had installed a 2.5 " lift, it has Duff shocks so I'm assuming it's Duff coils and leaf springs. Freeway driving is not bad but around town its almost impossible to drink a cup of water while driving. Is this simply the short wheel base and it is the way it is or is there a better coil, leaf combo? Would like to hear your suspension setups, thanks
There is only about 3000 miles since the kit was installed in 95, yes 95. It's been in the garage collecting dust.

Probably has an add-a-leaf, that will do it (make it harsh).

Yes, agreed, probably an add-a-leaf or blocks and a worn out stock leaf pack. Also, the 2" coils were never redesigned to match the smooth riding progressive coils we have now. Those are old school and ride as such... Getting into a good 11 leaf pack and modern design coils will change it up completely.

The PO did just what you described with my '70. Rides like a road wagon, makes noise, and seems like there is no suspension back there at all. %) On my list but got bigger issues for the moment.

If you want or need the lift, a pair of multi-leaf rear springs would be a good move, based on opinions posted around here. If you don't care for a suspension lift, try removing the add-a-leaf first, especially if budget is an issue. It will take it down to stock height and loosen things up quite a bit. New 5 or 6 pack stock leaf springs are good too if you want stock height. As for the JD coil from 1995, I had one from about 1991 or so. Yes, the wire is thick and they were stiff!

I had the old school JD 2" lift suspension and recently replaced it (although, I went back to stock height). A newer setup will make a noticeable improvement in ride. It will still drive like a truck, but more like a half-ton than a 1 ton 4wd, as I'm guessing you experience now!

I appreciate the feedback.I looked at the rear springs and I think you are correct on the add a leaf as one of the 5 leafs. The p/n on the upper most leaf is 5595 and the front coils are blue with 10 coils. I do like the ride height with the 33's. I have my rear pinion angle dialed in and the front alignment is almost there. I would like to not start over with the setup but the ride sucks. I've had 4x trucks and Broncos since I was sixteen, I don't mind a firm ride just not a jaw jarring ride. I may try upgrading with the Duff coils and leafs.....

I have the Duffs monster susp set up. Took all the piece mealing out. Needless to say, even my wife stated , "Wow, it rides so smooth!". Much better than my DD.

Thanks Broncoitis, I looked at their coils and springs and they sound nice. Hopefully your as lucky as Mooseyfate. I'll hang back for a couple of weeks and see how you like the new ride.

Just installed a 2.5" lift from WH's. The rear has the 11 leaf pack springs. Really smooth ride. I'm glad I spent the extra money on the 11 leaf packs.

Did I mention how smooth it was?

Thanks Muskrat, you said 2.5", what tires are you running? I've been guessing what lift the PO actually had, I've been guessing 2.5 or 3.5.
