I saw this at a local car show, beautiful work and attention to detail.

I lost all respect for the owner when he said he put a TPI 350 in it...

I would rather put my wiener in a meat grinder before I would ever consider an LS.... absolutely disgusted such a topic exists on this form!

SS69 in Chattanooga? I guessing you go the Honest Charlie cruise in? If so I know you have seen my buddies Purple / Gray 55 Chev. It's mini-tubed and has cast CP5000 wheels on it. It has a 6.0LS w/carb and 6 speed. He is getting 20-23 MPG hwy and 16-18 round town. Not to mention making right at 500hp.

Are you talking about this one? Saw it at the power tour today.

Yeah thats my buddy Greg Abbott. I should have read the thread over the weekend. Sorry we weren't open for ya to swing by. I hated I didn't go to the Power Tour stop. I have been to all of the ones at Cokers place, but I had so much going on yesterday I just couldn't get there. Then of course I heard it was a huge turnout to the point that they were turning cars away and it went on til way after 7pm.

Yea we left about 4pm and they were still filling up all the parking lots. Big turnout for sure!

No hate for LS motors, but I always found other brand rigs with 350 chevies dropped in them boring. The cheaper and easier it is, the less interesting it is to me.

LS motors are great, not many stock vehicles can match up with the LS7 in my Z06. I still built a SBF stroker for my Bronco, just couldn't see losing all that value after all that work. Maybe if it was a Jeep......

Sadly I tend to agree, but I do have a fondness for those that are willing to embrace new technology to make there classic as comfortable and modern as possible with the classic lines and feel without the classic headaches.

I really wish that the coyote fit better and had more universal qualities, that IMO just aren't there, I believe its coming, Ford is even getting involved in that but its still a few years off getting the bugs worked out. If i could get a coyote purchased and installed with dependable drivetrain behind it for less than 8k I'd be highly interested in doing that, but its just not there yet. IMO until the 6spd auto that comes behind it can be used, they are way behind the curve, and it has to become more afordable.

And yes I'd even be willing to put it in an older Cheby if it was as hot and affordable as an LS:p:-X

So when I start my 68' U13 LS restomod thread..........it won't be well received here?:p

I don't ever hear any grumbles when somebody puts a 4bt Cummins in their EB.........

Don't worry. My U13 won't be too hot with this group either if I end up going the route I've been considering which is putting a 350ci 4 bolt main in it. I'm a GM fan all the way, I just happened to fall in love with the early broncos.

I'm in the process of putting in a built 6.0 in my bronco. Had to go with a corvette LS6 intake so that I could mount the motor higher to clear some summit brand block hugger headers. Went with a 4l60 and a transfer case NP231 from a dodge pickup. Check out some of the pic, and keep in mind this is not my motor. This was just a 6.0 we had layinging around and used for fabbing the mounts.

Did you make the motor mounts yourself? How difficult was it to mount the transmission to the cross member?

I have to say if this was a 4bt thread...as previously mentioned, then it would be ok. Mention an LSx and suddenly people would rather run weiners through meat grinders...seems a bit jaded.

I just wish roller cam 351's were as available as LS engines. I'm pretty sure Walgreens has a BOGO on LS engines right now.

I considered an LS because of it's power and availability but ended up going 5.0 for it's reliability and the simplicity of the project.

There are quite a few available in Socal junkyards right now. A lot of 90's trucks are making their way thru local yards currently....probably walk by 2-3 in any yard I go to. I think the 90's trucks have hit their useful service life so they're turning up more and more lately. Yeah....they're not your garden variety drop in, like the LS package, but it's a starting point for a build. YMMV ;)

Motor mounts were bought at pep boys. Energy suspension polyurethane motor and trans mount. Then a custom plate was made to bolt it to the block. Custom mounts from the frame to the motor mounts were made.

Transmission crossmember was custom made as well. Any fabricator should be able to make them. My fabricator currently makes drilling equipment for the oil industry.

More pics of the transmission crossmember

5.0 and reliability don't go together in the same sentence. Lot easier in my opinion to work with the LS. The aftermarket support is so strong for the motors, it's crazy. It's safe to say the classic chevy 350 is going the way of the cassette. Seems that every "classic" car is using the LS motor.

Every body i know with a 5.3 ls burns 1-2 quarts of oil after a few years old and 50,000 miles. I have had 2 and both have check engine oil level lights come on. My z71 started burning oil at 20,000 miles and my wife's current vehicle has 80,000 miles and randomly will be 2 quarts low. Google 5.3 oil consumption for a good read.
