Thanks Chris. This is very helpful! I'm going to post a bit later some pics of my steering. I think I may have either bad or missing bushings and want to get your opinions.

Also have a question about duel tanks. I've seen a valve by the drivers seat but I only have the switch on the dash. Do you have to have both?

I only used one tank on both my 77's. Some one with more knowledge should chime in. I think the switch on the dash is for the gauge and the valve below the seat is to changed the tanks over.

Both tanks should be hooked up (they were when I owned the truck). I disconnected the manual valve under the seat and hooked up an electric wired to the tank switch. Switch the fuel gauge and it should switch the tank too. The switch is mounted inside the drivers frame rail near the aux tank.

Awesome...that's great to know. Thanks!

Should these "knuckles" be so loose? Sorry if this is a real noob question! It seems like there should be bushings or something on these and I'm wondering if this is one of the reasons why the steering is so loose.

Just in general is there anything visually wrong here with the steering set-up? I'm having it reworked but can't until I get the title (no idea when that will happen) and am just curious if you guys see anything obviously wrong here. I guess I'm just thinking about angles or something. Clearly it's hard to diagnose something like this on the internet!

Figured out a couple things today while messing with the truck. It seems like at some point whoever had this top I have tried to remove it without realizing it was bolted to the windshield. It's bent and pulled out around the lip where the bolt holes for the windshield is. I was planning on having the top repainted...now I'm going to have to have some body work done on it too. Hopefully I can find a good body shop that can work this out for me.

The other problem is that there isn't a piece of weather stripping anywhere. The only one I have is the piece that goes between the liftgate and the tailgate and that's because I bought the top from somebody else. So I need to buy door seals, window seals, top seals, windshield seals, tailgate seals, and any other seal that should be here that probably isn't. I've seen seals on a few different websites. Does anyone out there have any experience on a good source for these? Ideally I could just buy a set of all of them and catch a break on cost!

Bought all my gaskets from bronco graveyard (quarter panels and windshield). Looks like you'll need the upper door strips too.

From the pics on the website it appears maybe the grease boots are missing. If you have someone turn the steering wheel and you watch the joints, do you see any play before the linkages start moving?

I just bought a full set of weather stripping from bronco graveyard today! I guess they all got thrown out during the refurb process Dimitri did. Not the end of the world. All new rubber won't be the worst thing.

I'll have to get another set of hands/eyes to help me check out the steering stuff. I've been going solo on all of this so far. I have a buddy who's a mechanic and going to check the truck out and do a full alignment. He's going to address the minor oil leaks. Hopefully he'll have some good things to say and ideas to make the truck cherry again! She's already close so it shouldn't be impossible.

I may lower the truck too. It's a bit much at 7.5" total lift. I hope this is possible without having to buy all new suspension since what I have is all new. I'm just a bit worried about the stability of the truck with a family roll cage and hard top installed (center of gravity...roll-over risk, etc.). I plan on using this for a near-daily-driver and put my 2 little daughters in it too. I want it as safe as possible. Plus it's a bit of a pain getting in and out...and I'm 6'2".

Yeah I could probably use your experienced opinion on a few things. Let me know when you think you could come by and I'll make sure I can be there.

Title is finally on it's way to me. Was hoping for it today or tomorrow but wasn't sent until today so I'll probably get it on Monday now with my luck. Learned a HARD lesson on buying something without a title. It's a product of the situation...I don't even really blame the seller. He didn't know the DMV would be this difficult. He should have got the title before listing the truck for sale, but I guess he learned a lesson too. I hope anyway for his future customers! This 2mo wait has just been the worst bullshit ever!

That's awesome!!
I stopped by about a week ago and told your baby sitters that I would try to get by again sometime. I think I confused them when I told them we haven't even met yet.:)
Just not enough hours in a day to do everything. Congrats again on the title.

hahah...that's funny. They didn't even tell me anybody dropped by! Truck is at the mechanic's now. Waiting on plates so he can take it to get the alignment run on some high tech equipment somewhere. No title strikes again! His wife actually knew your family. She said you guys had some show quality EBs. I'm assuming she was talking about the same family! I'm not sure of her name but his is Matt and he lives over next to Crozet Park. He did my Toyota for me and did a great job, so I'm giving him a crack at the EB. Just the initial stuff. It's leaking oil which is frustrating because it's obviously not a rebuilt engine as was advertised. That and the alignment are the biggies. He'll be able to get it all straight though and then I'll take over from there.

Got my title today! Plates tomorrow.

Picking up my Bailie Bilt cage and winch bumper tomorrow too.

My mechanic can't get the 4x4x2 box I bought to fit. He says it's just too big. I know I need a non-indexed pitman arm and a new u-joint, but apparently the hoses and power steering pump won't fit either. I really think he's just not doing something right. The guy I bought it from definitely sounded like he knew what he was talking about and people on here know of him. I've got a call in to him. What do you guys think?

I hope I didn't get hosed on this box!

that's exactly what the guy at the Ford place said! The motor isn't new...it's original...but it was rebuilt less than 500 miles ago. Runs really well.

I'm not sure what the gears are. Pretty sure it's a dana 44 up front and 9" rear, but I don't know the gearing. Would that hurt my highway cruising? I really want to be able to drive this thing comfortably over 50MPH without the motor screaming at me!

I have 4.10's and 33" tires on my wrangler and the combo is near perfect. 75 on the highway and power to the wheels when I need it both on and off road!

My 67 has 4.57 gears and 33" tires. Almost feels like too much, but I don't plan to go bigger on the tires so I'll prob live with it.

Nice impulse purchase!

Looks like you need an adapter plate. Check out this thread, it might help and has pics.

http://classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=196555&highlight=4x4x2+plate

yeah it sounds like i probably need several things to get this mod done right. my mechanic is stumped so i'm just having him put the original back on and i'll do it myself in a couple months when i have more time to get in there. right now i just want to get out of the garage!

i got my plates today so i can finally have the alignment addressed and i should be rockin' next week!

turns out the oil leak was just from the crappy chrome valve covers that were put on there i guess for bling? they were very loose and just aren't good covers. it's funny how sometimes problems are the simplest things you just look right past not imagining that's what it could be...but i have to remind myself the engine isn't really rebuilt. unless you consider replacing good valve covers with cheap chrome ones so it looks shiny a rebuild! fortunately it does run well. the funny thing is (which admittedly makes me look even dumber!) the oil was BLACK. so during this "rebuild" they didn't even change the oil?! live and learn! at least i have a good base to start a REAL restoration. lesson certainly cost me a few grand in overpayment, but life will go on!

i'm hoping to finally be able to get over 30mph next week and see how the gearing feels with these 35x12.50s. i'm guessing/hoping it'll be fine. right now 75mph would equal quick death i'm sure the way my alignment is!

Big day today...picked up my cage and bumper in Richmond...got my plates finally...and all I have left to do mechanically is get the alignment done.

This Bailie Bilt cage and winch bumper are awesome. I went with top bars over the rear too to keep the safari soft top form sagging and filling with water in the rain. It looks bad ass I think. I know it's top heavy, but I think the added safety outweighs the danger in top heaviness. I don't really know...am just telling myself this. I certainly don't think I have to worry about me or my kids getting crushed in a roll now!

I was going to paint these myself, but maybe I will spring for powder coating. They'll look a ton better if I do. This thing is nasty with the bully bar.

That looks awesome!! I like that cage. Better than the family cage I had in mine, which is now in my dad's white 77.
