Can someone remind me why I bought a "camper special" master cylinder. . My memory sucks. I bought it years ago when my brakes were crap. I since have installed disc up front with much inprovement. I know if it's not broke dont fix it.....but I have this MC just sitting here and if its an improvement I'll change it out.

Because you fell for the same hype I did. It shortens the travel and makes it harder. So the result is a pedal that doesn't move and takes insane leg pressure to get any results. The camper special was the worst thing I ever did for brakes. I was so happy to take it out and toss it.

I got the same master cylinder when I bought my power disk brake pkg. I'm going to drop in one from a 76/77 to get back some braking action. Trust me, going downhill with 2 feet on the brake pedal is no fun!

I have the camper special master in my 73 with out the booster and it made a world of difference in stopping power. I've noticed no "insane" amount of leg pressure. All I know is when I did my discs upfront and master cylinder swap it actually stopped in a straight line. hahaha

That's my experience atleast. :D

It works great for me. I have disc from a 76 on my 74. I also have the T-bird calipers with no power assist and my Bronco stops very well with no hard pedal.

Just throwing this out there, years ago I heard about the 84 Ramcharger master cylinder upgrade so I bought it, tried it and it works awesome. Also it almost bolts right up, just have to enlarge the 2 bolt holes to 3/8" and thats all. Anyone else do this?

The Camper Special was " recommended " in one of the early Chevy disc brake conversion articles out there. Lots of debate out there about it but it seems that most people either hate it or swear by it. I have one in my 66 and don't have any issue with it. There are probably as many camper special MC's in easy Broncos as there are in Camper Special Trucks!

Can someone post up the year/make/model for the "camper special" master cylinder that everyone recommends. I've always wondered if there weren't two different master cylinder bore sizes offered on the "camper special" because of the dramatic differences in peoples opinion of this "upgrade", so if I knew the application information I could at least research it and maybe find out the skinny.

Sizing a master cylinder basically comes down to simple math, so if there is an opportunity to actually put a little tech into this thread that might help others in the future improve their brakes, that has to be a good thing.

just installed this the master cylinder that as been recommended for a f-250 camper spiecal .Would like to let ever now the part number they recommend to use is a 10-1638 the bore size is 1 1/4 not 1 1/8 and all parts company don't say anything about a camper spiecal that i can find. After installing this master cylinder and the chevy caliper and bleeding the system brakes don't release and fliud comes out the cap.

If I may ask what did you use in its place? Thanks

I dropped to a Mustang SVO master cylinder for a little while, better but still didn't like it. Eventually went back to the original 1" bore master cylinder, with hydroboost.

76 F250 CS M/C- love it, using it with one ton brakes up front and 1/2 chevy crap on the rear.

I installed the F250 camper special when I went with the Chevy disk conversion. Didn't like it at all. Had to get the rod out of my stock one because it didn't come with one which was a pain in the ass and the leg pressure required was noticeably more than stock. Went back to a stock 76-77 disk/drum mc and it was better for me. Now it has HB and that is true night and day.

I have it on both my trail and street bronco with no booster on either. I love it, for the trail if I kill the engine I still have brakes, for the street it actually makes it stop without having to stand on the brakes.
