Trying to take advantage of the COSTCO promotion for tires and I am having difficulty ordering the tires. COSTCO (at least mine) can only work with metric sizes and I am lost at trying to find the proper metric conversion for:
35" x 12.5" x 15"
Can someone help?

Width x Aspect Ratio = Section Height x 2 = Combined Section Height + Wheel Diameter = Tire Diameter
Example...185/60R14 85H or 185/60HR14

185mm x .60=111mm x 2=222mm + 355.6mm(14")= 577.6mm or 22.74"

The first number is the width of the tire in millimeters, measured from sidewall to sidewall. To convert to inches, divide by 25.4 In the example above, the width is 185mm or 7.28".

The second number is the aspect ratio. This is a ratio of sidewall height to width. In the example above, the tire is 7.28" wide, multiply that by the aspect ratio to find the height of one sidewall. In this case, 185x0.60=111mm or 7.28"x0.60=4.36".

The last number is the diameter of the wheel in inches.

To figure the outside diameter of a tire, take the sidewall height and multiply by 2,(remember that the diameter is made up of 2 sidewalls, the one above the wheel, and the one below the wheel) and add the diameter of the wheel to get your answer.

I came up with 318/80R15...Does that make sense or does this not apply to larger tires?

your not gonna find a tire in metric that big in a 15". A LT315/75r/16 is the closest in dia (34.7") but a 16" rim.

35 x 12.5 x 15 is 34.7"H x 12.7 W on a 10" rim

A 325/75r15 is 34.1" x 12.7"
A 335/75r15 is 34.7 x 13.1
A 318/80r15 is 35" x 12.5"

But than again try to find these in the tire you want.

That was how I was figuring it but I wasn't sure if I was using the correct numbers because I kept getting a number that I couldn't match up with any numbers listed on the COSTCO site. From your calculations and mine, I feel pretty comfortable that COSTCO doesn't carry these tires
Thanks!

I found this on the 'net...

35.0X12.5R15.0 (318/80R15.0)
Width: 12.5" (318mm)
Sidewall Height: 10.0" (254mm)
Overall Height: 35.0" (889mm)
Circumference: 110.0" (2793mm)

Better late than never...;D

How can they only work in metric sizes when the size you need is not metric???!!! I just got my 35x12.5's from costco and didn't have nay problems at all.

Maybe they were confused and thought you were basically coming in saying "I need a tire thats 35 inches tall by 12 inches wide for a 15 inch rim" I know that when I worked at pep boys a lot of people would tell me they needed a "23x8" tire and you would have to find out their tire size in metric. Maybe the people at costco didn't realize that 35x12.5x15 is actually the size the tire is listed by.

How much did you pay for your tires?
