Ok so tonight I removed my old D20 to replace with another one i picked up. Took the old one off and set it to the side. Realized the adapters are different. The adapter on the old one came off the TC no problem. When I took it off the new one, it took the gear with it. What is the difference between these two cases? Can I switch adapters?

Well you have a C4 adapter and a manual trans adapter. What I don't see is the C4 bearing retainer that is probably stuck in your old tcase. Pop that out and put it in the new tcase after you swap the input gears.

That's what I was thinking (about the manual/auto). Ok, so I need to swap the input gears and put the old bearing retainer on and i'm good to go?

Yep. The input gears are most likely the same since they're both J shift cases but it's always a good idea to keep the gear with the tcase it's been used in originally.
