hi all

im in the middle of doing a ground up/frame off resto on my 77 and will be selling it upon completion. I am stuck on what color i should go with and whether or not to go with uncut or the new high cut rear quarter panels.

i prefer solid vs metallic colors for the body however i am open to metallic colors as well. i plan to stick with the wimbledon white for the topper.

the original 77 body is toast so a new body is will be ordered here shortly. unfortunately the 77 fuel doors will not be used on the replacement rear quarters.

hoping to get some feed back from members to see what everyone's thoughts are on the "what's hot and what's not" in the EB bronco resale world.

these are the build specs i have in mind

new body
96 explorer 5.0 with EFI guy reworked harness
4r70 or AX15 trans
dana 44 front and 9" BB rear with disk/drum brakes
dana 20 xfer case
2.5" or 3.5" suspension lift
1' body lift
stock-ish interior with aftermarket seats/color options depend on body color i suppose

thank you in advance

JP

My retirement hobby is buying derelict vehicles, refreshing them, and selling them off. (I generally don't make much, but I don't lose much either. I'm happy to just break even.) So this is a question I have dealt with many times before. Regardless of what the car/truck is, I've always found that mostly stock appearance and original colors with a few driving upgrades are the easiest to sell. In the case of my current Bronco project, that means uncut, and original Sky View Blue body, with 2.5-3" lift, power steering and power front disc. We'll see how hard it is to sell later. Hopefully this coming fall.

As a buyer I'd be more interested in an uncut body, prefer original color (but not as important to me as uncut body) and some modern upgrades. In other words kind of a "resto-mod" with a classic Bronco look but nice seats, better suspension, etc.

My Bronco boy/frame were acid dipped and dipped e coat, otherwise I would have stayed original color because of door jams, underside hood, etc. I went boxwood green because that is the only green me and my wife could agree on (baytree green is my choice). No way to predict what color people will buy other than internet searches. The other factor is the price range you intend to sell @.

For the early bronco I find that either stock colors or colors that came stock are best. In particular are the brighter red, blue, yellow etc colors seemed to grab more attention and appear to be "fun" colors for someone just wanting to run to the beach or ice cream or whatever.

thank you and great feed back so far! of course after all the replies i realized that i forgot to mention that the original 77 body is toast and this build will be outfitted with a new one. so i thought here is my chance to order it with the rear quarters of my choice/popularity.

the original color was dark jade metallic which is my least favourite color but not against it for resale purposes

my preference for colors are stock brighter solid colors but that just me i guess

Too bad the body is toast! One of the main reasons I wanted a 77 was for the fuel doors. Mine is medium Emerald but it seems like the dark jade metallic was what most of the last production models were for the 77's.

Those high cut rear quarter panels look great! Ford should have done that originally. That would make your build unique because you just don't see many Broncos with that. Considering the scope of your project the high cut quarters will be consistent with the other upgrades.

Cut and Boxwood Green or Limestone Green Metallic

I will say with my suggestions above, I prefer uncut over cut, and I don't really care much for either of those two greens. That's what's been selling the last few years though.

Dark Jade Metallic is an awesome color. I think it would be great for resale value - look at the new greens coming out on new cars recently. Even Broncos. Green is the new Black! If you want to modernize it a bit Eruption Green would be a good choice.

OK, that changes my recommendation a bit. The advantage to 'uncut' is the originality. Since my '69 made it this far in life w/o having the quarters cut, I want to keep it that way.

But on a build with a new tub I'd probably get the high-cut fenders in back. Arguably better looking, and you can fit decent size tires under them without too much lift. Keeping the lift reasonable (2.5" suspension or less) makes it easier to build a decent driving all-purpose rig.

yup too bad for sure. it was beyond toast worst one i have owned so far. i like green but the jade metallic for some reason doesn't do it for me on the EB. i really like it on the 78/79's with the free wheeling stripes.

i agree on the boxwood green it has been super popular lately - wonder if it will keep up in demand or what's the next phase right? i see more and more of that eruption green hitting the market lately too... not my choice however that legacy built bronco sure hit a home run at BJ last month

haha i just made a comment on the eruption green prior to reading your reply. so true eruption green is the new black - maybe that's why i don't like them dark greens as black for me is not even an option lol
