My motor is out so I can measure. I got 11 inches driver side and 11 1/8 pass. Side from inside the front cross member to the middle of the motor mount for V8 motor.. the difference is because of fords great quality in the 70 s. Has

If you are doing an I6 to V8 swap with a stock (V8) transmission. You can bolt everything together and drop it into the frame. Use the transfer case mount to locate everything and that will line up the motor mounts in the frame. Be sure that you put the bolts in the center of the holes, most of the engine mounting holes are way oversize to allow for sloppy clearances. Stay in the middle and all will be good.

In the middle of a motor swap on my '75. I measured 25.5" from the front of the framerail to the center of the mount on both sides. V8, framerails in good shape.

Hopevthis helps.

Tough spot to be in...

I remeasured cuz I was a little tired this morning... Without a doubt 25.5" on mine. Again, my engine is not in the truck and I got an actual measurement with straight frame horns. 2" further back and my engine would have hit the firewall...

There was a pretty wide tolerance from the factory on these weldments, but I think 2" is excessive even for the 70s...

Well I was thinking of putting a modern 4r70w in it that is why I wanted to get the engine location correct

Trial fitting the actual motor is the ideal situation... I dropped my motor in last night and I have 1 inch between the valve cover and firewall.
