Need Distributor Advice

My bone stock '73 302 is currently in the shop for a rebuild. I am replacing the distributor and need advice on a simple electronic ignition solution.

A 1974 distributor with a Duraspark II ignition box would be my go to.

Careful on which ignition module you use.

Broncos used a black (1974), green (1975) or a blue (1976-77) grommet module. The engine wiring harness is different for all three but all the modules will physically connect to it. They will not work though. The one year only parts are very difficult to find and a lot of parts people assume the next year's part is just as good.

This is the needed harness to convert to Dura Spark II.

If your rebuilding, with a different cam, you can do one of the best distributors (if the GM HEI doesn't yuck you out) by Performance Distributors out of TN https://performancedistributors.com/product/ford-dui-street-strip-v8-221-289-302-cid/. Go directly to them and they will get all your specs and curve the distributor for you. Performance Distributors (DUI) are very reliable.
2-Another option is take your stock one and send it to Wes Adams at Hillside auto in Oregon. He is well known in the Ford FE arena.
3-Drop in Pertronix, always have a spare in the glovebox though, is great for the price and you keep your original distributor.
-Don't fall for the new MSD stuff. Sadly many former legit companies were bought out by big corporate and the quality has went WAY down.
-Duraspark is great, but for what your paying after all the modules/wiring/distributor you should just get a brand new DUI.
-If your going roller cam make sure to let the distributor company know so you can have the correct gear placed.

Easiest and cleanest is an hei set up. If you go that route don't do it on the cheap. Get the dui unit mentioned above. Guys have has issues with the cheaper versions. Also dui recommends an aftermarket oil pump drive like an arp .

DSII distributor with custom curve advance. Ford module, blue strain relief I seem to recall, MSD or similar optional, also can use a GM module (I know) as they are smaller and plentiful and inexpensive.
