Need Information about the 1977 Ranger...

I purchased this vehicle a few weeks ago and done a little research. Most of it's original except for a few items (steering wheel/radio) Have the original radio but a modern one is installed. It still has the original tan dash pad under dash cover, seats/panels - houndstooth, hubcaps, carpet, and the original paint. It appears that the dealer added A/C, Stroppe Rollbar, and maybe cruise control.

I have two things that I haven't figured out????

The vehicle has the chrome piece over the rocker panels and I have only seen that on a few Rangers. Also it appears that it never had any of the white striping on the bottom/hood or it was taken off very early on because there's no shadows or signs of the stripes being there. It does look like someone added some small custom painted pin stripes that looks from the 70s or 80s era. Did any of the Rangers not come with the white stripes.

The other thing is that the doors have small 4" square speakers and the holes where the speaker wires run through the door/post are punched and not drilled and look like it was done at the factory or dealer. Not sure if this would of been a factory or dealer option????

Thanks and give your opinion..... :)

Pictures of my Dad's 60k mile original light jade '77 Ranger with the stripe delete and rocker moldings. The speakers in the doors did not come from the factory but dealers could do almost any mod.

Like stated above you could order them without the kit. However that being a 77 model, and depending on which month it was made, Ford may have been out of the stripe kits and didn't order anymore knowing this was the last yr for production of this model.

Check out my three previously owned Rangers in my garage. All three including the 75, did not have the stripes. The 75 did have rocker trim.

Im wanting to get this one back to close as original as I can......

The only thing I'm at the crossroads about..... Should I leave it stock height and run small tires or raise it 3 1/2 inches and run 31s on the original wheels. I will need to replace the suspension soon and both cost about the same except for the new tires.

The redneck in me wants to lift it but since my other one is already on 35s, I'm thinking about keeping the original look....

What do you guys think?????

Absolutely leave it stock. Plenty of restomods out there that can be had for a fraction of the restomod price. These puppies are not only way cool they are getting arra r&r and rarer.

A great investment for answering a lot of questions is a Marti Report. You'll learn when and how it was built, and even the original selling dealer and sale date. Not sure if a "stripe delete" would be listed, however.

I would leave it stock or at the most do a 2.5" lift, I think any over that and it takes away from originality.
