Need possible New Carb advice

My stock Autolite has developed a case of spraying gas all over the motor compartment lately. The guy I just bought my 69 from replaced all the gaskets when it was leaking out the front of carb in a couple of spots. It ran pretty good but a little rough. When you went to rev it up in neutral it was a little rough almost like too much fuel would dump in and it would load up or bog down. He said the jets may be a little bit big. Today I take it for a spin and come to a stop & it is just coughing & sputtering at idle, try to drive again & it has no power then dies. Try to restart but no luck. Opened the hood & it had & was dumping a crapload of gas out the back. I am almost wondering if possibly the choke stuck closed because when I pulled off the air cleaner the choke plate was closed & their was raw fuel in the air cleaner housing. Now I am thinking that I need to go get a new/rebuilt stock carb. A few years ago I put a rebuilt (by Holly) motorcraft 2150 on my 1973 & it worked great. I have a manual choke too & I think I would like to do a electric choke if not too tough to install. I still have the motorcraft 2150 I think with the electric choke. Maybe I should find someplace to rebuild that one ? What does the electric choke get its power from if I decide to use that one ?

Any thoughts on carb choice ? I want to stay pretty stock as I just use the truck to cruise around town mostly. I am pretty much a novice when it comes to messing with carbs.

Thanks Ole. Now that I have been doing internet searching I am thinking my old motorcraft 2150 may not work as it came off a 3 on the tree manual & my 69 now is a C4. Doesn't the stick shift & auto have different carbs ?

If you currently have a manual choke it sounds like is improperly adjusted as it should not allow the choke plate to close when its pushed in all the way. Might want to check the adjustment. I would also consider getting a rebuild kit for your carb it may has a worn needle seat also. The kit will have very good instructions with it also to help you tune it.

If carb is dumping gas, its a float or needle/seat problem. You may have other issues also. The auto carb has linkage for your kickdown on tranny.
