I'm just about finished with my 4r70w, now I just need parts for my carbed 98 explorer, so far I got
A complete 98 explorer 5.0 motor, from flexplate to fan, will be using the serpentine set up
A 2121 edelbrock intake with a holley 470ta, with a set of new 98 explorer intake gaskets.
A mustang dizzy non TFI with the steel gear
Parts needed

Still looking at a set of headers for the p heads
I have a hydroboost off a cobra mustang, so I guess I'll need to drill another return line on the stock explorer power steering reservoir to avoid the T setup.

Probably need adapters for the explorer power steering hoses

Electronic ignition for the new dizzy

The reason I'm not going to the EFI right away is because I still need a new EFI gas tank and the wiring among other things, that will be done down the road, thanks.

can i use my stock radiator?

yes, but you will need some new hoses. I forget the details but the latest lower hose is a power stroke lower hose trimmed to fit. The other way is to have a muffler shop bend up a crossover tube, or just buy one.

You will probably have to deal with the PVC system, Air cleaner, Down shift linkage if that is still used. Vacuum advance in the Distributer? Make a timing mark for the balencer. rewire the alternator to the Bronco electrical system. Check your motor mounts real good as you will be doubling your horsepower from stock 302. Heater elbow, thermostat and water neck for your new intake.
I believe you have to extend your fan shroud.

Great advice guys, keep them coming.

I'm planning to use a set of bronco script valve covers to keep the pvc system, anyone using them on the explorer potor?, I'm currently running 3g alternator. I have a 47r0w so the downshift is not longer needed. the dizzy does have a vacuum advance.

What carb you using? don't go big, especially if your swapping to EFI later. Find a good 2100 with 2 to 4 adapter plate.

I tried to reuse the Explorer (96) "reusable" valve cover gaskets with those valve covers and ended up oiling my garage floor real good. They don't work together. Went to the good 'ol cork ones for now, so I can see if my rebuild is going to run.

I used a 1970 Mustang radiator to keep the side mounts from my I-6 and have the inlets and outlets match the engine. Bottom hose was a Gates 22039 but I didn't record the number on the top hose. Both were perfect with a little trimming.

Good luck, B2

ford motorsport mustang shorties for headers, will dump on pass frame rail but its not a big deal plenty of room for a turn, had em when I had P heads.
