New carb fuel line help

Installing new fuel lines on my carbed 302.
Reccomendations plz.
Rubber, stainless, steel?
Sizes?

I just buy the lengths of steel 5/16" & 3/8" brake line from the auto part store. It's very easy to bend and flair.

When I replaced my fuel line , I used braided stainless fuel line 3/8 hose
( little pricy though ) But super easy to run.
Now that I'm in the middle of a frame off will switch to stainless hard line.

I ran braided stainless hose with -6an fittings for years - never any problem but it is pricy. If I were still running a carb (and starting over) I'd form some hard line similar to what the factory did, from pump to carb. Quick, easy, cheap, reliable.

The OE fuel line was 5/16" steel tubing. You can't do much to improve on it, except to use a filter with a '80s type double flare 5/16" inlet to avoid the rubber hose Ford used in the '60s and '70s. The hoses were the cause of many engine fires.

Braided line with -6AN fittings is what I run.. from the tank to the fuel pump, then fuel pump to the carburetor. I have an inline filter just a few inches from the fuel tank outlet.

AN fitting and braided line is pricey but is worry free and clean looking.

The factory fuel line was a plastic tube with short pieces of rubber at the tank, pump, and switching valve if it had dual tanks.

I can't imagine where clarrance got the idea I was talking about any part of the fuel line between the tanks and the pump. I was obviously referring to the fuel line from the pump to the carb.

... I'm rather Red Neck.. So I too say get a 5/16 brake line .. one call Bunny Flex made by Everco & I'm sure there are more.. You can bend it without it Kinking. But ask how, before you just place it over your knee.
.. Then being the Red Neck I am I cut it off and put a 5/16 push on rubber line & See thru filter in place.

Venders sell the carb hard line kits. Very clean with the stock style pump.

Bending your own stainless is a good choice as well. 5/16" should be good for most engines.

Some of the 5/16" brake lines have the correct fitting for the pump, then bend and route from pump to carb. Cheapest way.

To answer russhow's question some important information is needed. What carburetor? What fuel pump? What are you trying for? A "cool" looking engine compartment, or a reliable truck.

NiCopp/EZ-Bend/Cunifer/etc is a 90% copper, 9% nickel, 1% iron alloy that has most of the corrosion resistance as stainless without the work hardening issues that can make it difficult to bend and flare.

Most "painted" sticks will be zinc plated steel tubing with a PVC coating or something along those lines, although I do believe there are some painted lines commercially available nowadays...but I wouldn't go there myself.

I would recommend the stock hard line replacement.

Since you are in Texas I would try BC first then maybe JBG being the next closest.
