Hello - we're brand new Bronco owners and could not be more excited! We purchased a 1974 Bronco Sport and are so in love. We're trying to find local Bronco clubs and mechanics but are not having much luck. We live in the Tampa Bay Area in Florida. If anyone has resources or direction to point is that would be wonderful. Thank you!

Greetings and welcome!

You've found the right place. This website is full of friendly and knowledgable Bronco folks.

Bronconut73 is in Orlando and posts here often.

I'm on the opposite corner, you're located far SE and located far NW. LOL. But all of us here have a passion for old Bronco's :)

Everyone loves to see pic's and hear details. Kindly post some pic's when you can. For now its fairly easy to add them to your "garage" feature

EDIT...I see a pic in your garage, my bad. Looks like fiberglass front fenders?

Welcome to the Bronco world. Please take the time to finish filling in your profile as far as location and such. There are a lot of guys on here from Florida.

PS. We all like pics.

Congrats on the purchase.

Thanks everyone! Yes, it is a hood emblem from a 1941 Cadillac actually. It was there when we purchased and will be removed soon :)

Sideways edition??

Funny you say "beginning of spending money" because we need a whole new brake system! Mechanic we found is recommending Wilwood and is quoting $3900 for the entire new system. Does that sound about right and I that top notch brand necessary??

Welcome. You are in the right place :) 4k For Brakes is outside of my budget, but Wilwood Brakes are highly regarded.

No, definitely not. There are disc brake kits for the front available from the venders at the top of the screen and power brakes can be added also. Rear discs are available if you really want them. Unless you're racing it I'd just do that (after you find another mechanic..)

You can do a front disc conversion yourself for around $200. Rear drums are more difficult. Paying for labor and new parts, I'd figure $2,000 for off the shelf parts. No need for the Wilwood stuff unless you're looking for bling.

Welcome! Broncos are simple machines, and if it gets puzzling, well that's what this forum is for! And yes..........find another mechanic for your brakes. If you have the time and means, do it yourself.

I would be looking for a new mechanic if that is what was suggested to me. Could they articulate why your "whole" system needs to be replaced? I have NEVER heard of every single component of a brake system needing to be replaced, unless of coarse the mechanic is slow and needs to pay some bills.

Wilwood would be great for a high dollar high performance build, but the stock rear drums and either the Chevy front disc or Ford front disc conversion are completely adequate and will perform better than the stock four wheel drums. Either will also be much cheaper than $3900.00

Welcome to CB!

I agree with the others on finding a new mechanic. You can find all the power brake parts from vendors, buy a set of knuckle sleeves from Graveyard for $18 and get all the front disc parts off a 73-79 F150 or 78-79 Bronco and be done.

Always glad to see fellow addicts join in the fun. I can honestly say, this is hands down the best forum out there (automobile or otherwise). You'll really enjoy the Bronco, and the people here.
