So this spring I saw a restored classic bronco and fell in love on how it looked. new nothing about these but decided i needed one. next thing I know I have a 69 rust bucket sitting in my driveway. I bought one without thinking much about it. Anyways I am doing a full frame off restoration and I decided I want to stick to pure original. It has the original 170 inline 6 with a 3 on the tree, but I noticed not many if any people actually put in the time and effort to restore these original engine? Am I in the wrong by wanting to restore the original engine or should I start looking for a 302 now? I am keeping the original drum brakes through out, Dana 20, ford 9 in the back, and Dana 30 in the front. Holy crap SO MUCH RUST EVERYWHERE. Many times I questioned my self if I am over my head, but the motivation is still strong. Would love to hear some words of encouragement to keep going. The frame is complete I have about 50 hours of welding, grinding, and painting all into it. Now onto the axles.

Unless you're just gonna drive it to shows once in a while it won't take long to realize why most swap to a 302 or 351. Then you want better brakes and power steering. It never ends. Welcome aboard

Welcome to the money pit! A bronco is better than a house whereas you do get a lot of enjoyment in-between major upgrades and modifications, but is just like a Haul n Grunt tv (HGTV) or Velocity show where any upgrade, minor or major, does take more than an hour! Enjoy your new second job, second wife/girlfriend/mistress! I would have it no other way.

Welcome aboard! I am just finishing up (hopefully) with a giant rusted out mess myself. All I can say is don't get discouraged when progress is slow. It may take you longer than you think to finish the project. Hang in there and Good Luck to you!
Post up some pics too, we love pictures!

Have a good one!

Welcome to the sickness. Start looking at all the build threads on here and you’ll see that a lot of people started with rust buckets and transformed them into pieces of art. Good luck. You can do this

So funny, I have used all this excuses already with my wife.... one more minute, I'm finishing up, I promise no Bronco this weekend...(those are the hardest weekends) I have to say my wife was a supporter of the project but now i think she is jealous of it. Still working on the right bronco/ family balance but man it's addicting. Here is a picture of day it came home. I'll try too add progress.

Yeah I used to go into the garage after the wife and kid went to sleep so I didn’t take away family time. But as I type this it sounds like I have an obsession... my wife is used to it now. I tell her it could be worse...at least it’s only the Bronco sites I’m surfing.
