I recently purchased a '72 at auction. Looking for some guidance on things I should check as I try to sort and prioritize work. Any problem areas unique to EB that I should look into?

Welcome aboard. You found the best resource for early Broncos online.
Sign up for contributor status ($12 a year) and then post some pics.
1st step should be make it safe. go thru brakes and steering and suspension.
Then figure out what direction you want to take with it...

What you need to know? You need to know how to leap tall buildings in a single bound, second the search function works pretty well, might need to try different versions of what you are searching for, other than that, ask, welcome to the broncos.

Safety first. Good brakes. A decent cage, especially if not running the hard top. Then dependability. If it has any wiring issues just buy a new harness and do the whole thing. Then it's done. Patching pieces to the stock 50 year old wiring just adds to the problem. Think into the future on swaps. If you want front disc brakes it may lead to a tie-rod swap. Then if you want power steering you want the tie-rods to still be compatible. Same with tranny swaps and suspension lifts. Both can lead to needing new driveshafts. You dont want to buy driveshafts twice so if you're if you're thinking of a lift and or tranny swap you might want to do both. Replacing new parts gets expensive. Spend the $$ once.

Get comfortable spending money
kids don’t really have to go to college
have a compassionate spouse
Take a poke at everyone else’s hot rod with a small block Chevy and twist your nose and say ‘I see you went to the dark side’
Find some friends that are good at taking oil rods out of Dana 20’s, and can set up new ring and pinion in Dana 44’s
