Does anyone know if there is a way to get this slop out of the windsheild wiper shafts? Or do you just have to get a new set. That ticking is making me crazy lol

You could probably pull the whole mechanism apart and shim it. Or you could get new ones if they’re readily available.
I can’t remember if they are or not, but I think the whole mechanism is available.
But that’s a pretty common amount of slop I think. Been a while since I tested, and most are probably tighter. But it’s not unheard of to see that much.
But what clicking is actually bothering you? Doing it by hand, or do they actually make weird noises when they are in use?

When the wipers are in use they are making a bumping noise but i got to thinking about it and i havent actially put blades on it yet. I can put my finger on almost any part of the mechanism and it will stop so when i do put blades on it that might be enough resistance to make it stop. Plus ill be hearing the blades too so it may not be an issue. The other post didnt have much slop at all so i was a little concerned but i just need to get some blades on it first and then see what i got.

Do most people just continue to use the bronco blades? Or has someone discovered a replacement that works better

Thanks !

Best replacement last I knew is the modified rear wiper off a jeep Cherokee. Then if you modify them correctly you can run a 14" blade, quite and improvement.

I just did a Cherokee swap on my wipers and running 14" blades. I loosely followed this youtube,
Youtube link

He says cut the blades shorter by 3 inches but I went a step further and custom trimmed each arm length to fit specifically in it's location. The arms are readily available on Amazon. But finding blades with a pin mount was more difficult. what I found was that Napa has a blade called Exact Fit that has a pin mount. PN 6-014-1. This gives me a front windshield blade and a rear window wiper arm. Below is my notes that I typed into my computer Bronco file which says basically the same thing as what I just typed out here.

Be aware that the right (passenger) side and left (drivers) side have the arms custom trimmed to fit. So the arms are not interchangeable. Also note that if the arms appear to almost but not quite fit then remove the wiper blades one at a time and flip them over and reinstall them. It is currently running

Wiper arms from 1986 Jeep Cherokee rear wiper arms. But the blades are for the front windshield.

You are looking for blades that fit with a pin mount.

Napa 6-014-1 Exact Fit blades which are 14 inch windshield blades hence the 014 in the part number.

You can also go with the 6-013-1 blades which are an inch shorter if you are having real trouble with the 14 inch blades.

Thanks Slow, my rig has been sititng for awhile and likely will need new blades.

I wonder if this style is going to become harder to find?

Maybe, I just did this last month so the parts are still out there. But it was next to impossible to find a pin mount blade on Amazon. Sure many ads claimed they were pin mount. But when I got the blade they were the newer style mount. Good thing for Amazon Prime and free returns. Rather than messing with Amazon I should have gone to my local Napa first. The blades were in stock and I was in and out in 10 minutes.

(15$ to 50$)or is it just people trying to rip you off.? alot on ebay used for higher prices than places like car parts .com are the cheaper parts inferior?

thanks again!

Used to take them off at the junkyard when the yards were full of the older jeep cherokees.

I think the last set I bought were $45 and I don't think its a terrible price IMO.
