I had to take out the steering column, master cylinder, clutch linkage, a pile of wiring and speedo cable to simply remove the cotter pin that holds the pedals in. I wanted to remove the clutch pedal since I went A/T. Both cotter pins are super hard and did not want to come out so they broke off in the holes leaving me screwed. I had to remove the pedal box to get the thing out.

If I was not half way through a power steering and hydroboost conversion project and had some semi legitimate reason for getting in this deep I may have lost my mind.

Had to rant a little because it really took the fun out of it. If I can get it all back in I will be very happy!

Time for some cake or something!

ya know i looked at that last week for about an hour ended up with a sawsal and cut it up as high as i could get it then tack welded what was left of the arm in place so it couldn't swing and rattle. Just looked like to much work to take it all apart and no telling if the bolts where going to come out or break and cause more problems.

Did you take the drivers side vent box out? I was able to get my pedals apart through the cowl this way.

When the cotter pins snapped off they were not quite flush with the shaft and rusted in place. Once I got it out it was a snap to drive and awl through the hole to clear it. Not possible under the dash. All back in now!

When I went from the C4 to NP435, I thought I could just pull the pins and move the shaft over far enough to hang the clutch pedal. So much for that, but once I got the pedal box out it was easy enough. That pedal box was kind of a bitch tho, if I remember right it took me almost a day to get the clutch pedal hung and reassembled. I've got an 86 Bronco right now with the AOD, and a junker with the NP435. It's almost been long enough since I did the EB that I'm thinking about trying it, maybe by next spring I'll be ready to tackle it! I hope it's not as bad as the EB......

I see. The funny thing is, I must have done the pedals a dozen times by just pulling the pins, sliding the pivot bar out, and the pedals fall to the floor. I wonder what is different that some folks have such a fight when they do this? Disturbing news.
