I got a bright idea today to use the cut up EB to mock up my NP435-203-205 combo. I needed to get it clocked so I can weld the adaptors together.
Much easier to do on the framerails without a tub than being underneath it.....

Thanks, I'll just keep the bottom level with the rest of the trans/tranfer case.

Ok I'm confused, I know everyone say it with me now..."Hi confused!"

Anyhow, I understand that the 435 is the transmision and the 205 is the transfercase. What is the 203 supposed to do? Overdrive?

Forgive me I'm still new and drive an automatic.

Thanks,
Greg

The 203 is also a t-case. We use the front "range box" from a NP 203 t-case and bolt it to the back of the NP 435 then the NP 205 bolts to the 203. The 203 is basically a 2:1 reduction box. It doubles whatever gear you are in. Clear as mud? ;D

Ok, now I understand. So you end up with 3 shift levers? Man I was confused when my D20 popped out of 2 Hi doing 75 on the freeway. I would really be screwed trying to figure out what was going on with 3 levers.

Actually, I have 4 shifters. 1 for the 435, 1 for the 203 and 2 for the 205 (twin stick). ;D

The shifter on the 203 is only there to put it in nutral correct? Orthwise its always in the same gear thus doubling the 205 gear ratio. Is the 203 using low range or high range? What did the 203 come out of and it is a straight bolt up to the 435 and 205 as the adapter is? How much longer is this set up than 435/adapter/205? wondering about driveline lengths and cross member.

Yeah the 203 shifter is either engaged or in neutral. The 203 that I am using came out of a late 70's Dodge. If you can find a Ford 203 you can use that too. Don't quote me on this, but I believe the Ford 203 is a direct bolt on to the 435 thus you would only need the adapter that goes between the 203 and 205. If you use a Dodge 203, then you will also need an adapter between the 435 and 203 and have to either change the 203 shaft or have it resplined to mate up with the 205.

I'm not sure what length the 435/adapter/205 is but my 435/adapter/203/adapter/205 is about 34 or 35 inches long. It's only about 1 inch longer than my stock 3 speed set up was. Hope this helps.

No. The 203 still has both hi and low range. It is either 1:1 or 2:1. I can't say on the length distance using a 435 since I run a C6 with mine. From what I understand you can use a Dodge 203 for a direct bolt up to a dodge 435. For mine I had to use a Ford one to go to the Ford C6 adapter.

Ok, so you have
6.69x2x? What ratio is the 205? Bet you'll be crawling with this setup! I was happy with my 235 and 2.34 with 3.50 gears...well most of the time. Gee I wonder when that L-shaped Stak box is going to come out. That's where I'll have to go because I am already pretty long with my ZF.

You are correct. I guess I was considering the 1:1 to be "neutral". Thanks for the clarification.

The 205 is 1.96:1. ;)

A search here for 203 Doubler will turn up a bunch of information previously posted here already including several pics using a few different transmisions. It has been done by other members here behind the C4, C6, NP435, ZF, and perhaps others that I don't recall.

Serves you right you young fool. NO fish and sunburn not good.
Out with the lotions and spread it all around. Aloa Vera works real well.
How is the overall length working out?? Any driveshaft mods required??

It looks alright, I knew I forgot to measure something when I had it all mocked up but it wouldn't matter because on the rear axle housing this is going with I had the spring perches clocked and rewelded.
