On a 1975 with a 302 V8 automatic C-4 why would the oil pan not drop off the motor and come all the way out? It’s stuck on something.

I jack the front end up using the frame. The idea is to get the pan away from the front axle. Then disconnect the top of the track bar to get it out of the way.

I'll use a dab of RTV on the corners of the saddles, buy that's it.
If you use RTV on the main part of the side gaskets, The gasket can split and squirt right out, or into the pan.
