Is there a poor mans solution to this? Some tricky napa part I can bolt on as an accessory (like the york air compressor for on-board-air) to get a welder? And if so, how thick will I be able to weld?

(or, anyone want to sell me a welder el-cheapo?) :)

Cheap arn't we?

Take 2 batteries and run them in series. use real battery connections on the posts or the jumper cables that you will be using for welding cables will melt through the posts.

Hope you know how to stick weld.

When done, put the batteries back in parallel and let the alternator charge them.

I don't have my handy cheat sheet for telling you what welding eletrode to keep on hand, but I know it should be an all purpose DC electrode.

I found a few posts on the web that deal with adding an additional modified alternator to work as a welder. Looks simple enough - thinking about playing with the idea a little

cheap and broke :) -- great combination.

I had heard the battery method before.... but was more interested in the alternator version...
