"Overhaulin" cage???

I am getting ready to order a cage for my bronco-just adopted a little boy!!
Has anyone tried the cage Chip Foose designed for the EB featured in "Overhaulin" last year??? Surely, as it comes, it will fit under my hard top. That was my husbands big question, so I told him I would double check before ordering it. I was going to order from Bronco Graveyard. When Chip;D completed that Bronco, they had the hard top on so it only makes sense, right?? Help. Thanks for your opinions.

As long as your EB doesn't use a half cab, most roll cages will fit with the full hard top on(good idea to confirm with vendor though). I believe the roll cage on Overhaulin was made by Protofab (see first link). On Protofab's website, I don't think they show it (see second link), but I bet you can order it.

The cage on Overhaulin covers the rear seats (4 points). You might want to consider a full family cage that covers the front as well (6 points).....they're more popular and stronger/safer.

I would say no on that cage. The windshield is not a support. In the even of an accident, flip or roll there is nothing to protect the driver...the main hoop may or may not be enough. I would opt for the the standard 6 point or possibly their "pro" or "premium" of the "family" cage. Another piece of advice...call Protofab directly. http://www.protofab4x4.com/products.php?ID=00&ID2=47 No offense to JBG (love them, they've been great to me, as have most of the Bronco vendors), but they are taking a slice of your cash...it is going to ship from AZ anyway. The guys at Protofab are awesome.

Have you looked at any of the other cages out there...lots of good designs, looks and some with very fair prices. The 'Crab cage' is also very popular. Pricing is comparable. Complete Off Road also makes a great cage. Try doing a search. I firmly believe that the abbreviated rear section you are interested in is not enough protection in the event of a medium speed (in-town or highway) roll over. Make sure to obtain additional plates to mount the cage (you would be sandwhiching the floor between the 1/4" plate that the cage tubing terminate at and similarly sized and drilled 1/4" plate on the underside of the floor board. If you havent done much research on this yet, get a coffee or two and perform a search on roll cages using the search engine above....alot, I mean ALOT of info, experiences and opinions. This is safety equipment as important as seatbelts and possibly brakes. People that really drive their Broncos without a cage are crazy. Lots of threads to show what happens when one of these flops over sidesways or rolls...the hardtop is not structural, by any means. Protect your family AND yourself.

It's a Protofab cage. It will fit undernieth your top. http://www.protofab4x4.com The only issue I see for you in Kansas would be shipping. I personnally would still go with the protofab cage though, I would upgrade to the Family style cage with all the add-ons... Good luck

I guess I type slow....

Just my opinion, but I don't beleive you will get a better built cage for the money from www.completeoffroad.com

DOM tube fully tig welded, shoot Mike Kirkus and e-mail and see what his prices are currently. He made me a sweet deal on a six point family cage, shippings not bad either.

The overhaulin cage was from protofab, and they requested it like that. the protofab cage is normally a 6 point family style.

Ben recently purchased the same cage for his truck. look for his pics.

Keith and Mike are great guys at Protofab.

Shipping is the real killer on getting a cage. most of the vendors offer a good family cage. BC or complete off road may be nearer to you to save on shipping $$. Another option is to check with local hot rod or fab shop. Go with pics of the cages you like so they know what you want. Something else not mentioned above is a frame tie-in kit. This mounts the cage to the frame underneath the body. A couple of the vendors offer em. I think complete off road does.

as others have said get a full type cage you don't want one like this and this was a pretty slow rollover

I don't mean to high-jack, but I have a question about tieing the cage into the frame. I am doing a frame off on a 76. The chassis is complete and the body is at the shop and should be ready for paint soon (I hope). I had the frame powder-coated. What do you guys think about just bolting the cage frame tie-ins rather than welding them in. I really don't want to grind off the powder-coat and weld in the tie-ins. This truck is only going to see street and light trails (No rock climbing and no high speed mud runs).

Thanks,

Chris B.

shipping really isn't that bad on a cage, the catch is you have to pick it up at the trucking terminal. i chose to have it delivered to a business address, so it cost me an extra $50. the terminal was about 60 miles away, so it would have cost me more than that to borrow a truck and drive up to get it.

anyway, i love my protofab cage! in my opinion, there's no price on safety, especially when my little girl will be riding along.;)

i'm in the research phase of cages myself. it seems as though the COR family cage would make it difficult to get into the back seat when you fold down the passenger seat--wouldn't the bars behind the seat block a lot of the path through? the protofab cage wouldn't seem to have that problem. is that accurate?

Yes that would be correct if you get the full tilt boogie COR cage. I run the family style point and it doesn't have the behind the seat hoops so ingress or egress is not a problem.

If you need some more opinions ... I would get the BaileyBuilt . He's closer to you and you could take it there and have it done . There's nothing wrong with the other cages , it's just rediculous what the shipping costs because of the size of the object being shipped and all of the hassles . BaileyBuilt is top notch and I would not hesitate to have him build my stuff ;)

My second choice would be to bring me your bronco and I will deliver it to you at Howiepalooza
