I had the 2 white cones that screw together. Tried it a bunch of different ways. Never got it to work right. Tossed it and went back to hand. The last 4 bearings I did were done by hand.

I've always used one of these for years, and it has never failed me ,and you can pick them up at any auto parts store.

I like to get a small deep sauce pan and squeeze two tubes of grease in the pan, then heat on the stove till it starts smoking good but not boiling. It'll turn the grease into a liquid. Drop the bearing into the liquid grease, then take them off and set them out on the porch to cool. After the grease turns solid again, fish the bearings out and install!!

Just kidding, but i always wondered what would happen......

PS get a teenage boy to pack them by hand

looks like it has a grease zerk to use a grease gun on. I just picked up an IR pneumatic gun at a garage sale for five bucks. so maybe less pumping anymore;D

Before every cotton picking season, Dad would point me to a five gallon can of grease and crescent wrench, and a big screwdriver, and had me pack wheel bearings on all the cotton trailers. There were fifteen trailers.
That's all. A crescent wrench and a screwdriver. Sure I needed a jack, but I used the three point on the tractor for that anyway.
I guess what I'm saying is...why complicate a simple task?

I've used one like this for years too. I have a grease gun that is used just for wheel bearings to keep cross contamination of grease from occurring. It is still messy but, not as much as packing by hand.
