Painting Armrests including seat and door trim pieces

Hey guys- I’m installing new ginger/houndstooth seat covers as well as new door and rear quarter panels.

I need to order new trim pieces... front & rear arm rests, front seat trim and door cups BUT I’m finding that they’re only available in black or white, not ginger. I’ve read here on CB to use SEM paint on the armrests, etc..

Here’s my question, would it make a difference (color wise) starting the painting process with black or white armrests for the best paint match?

Thanks!

I personally would use white if I were to paint them. Just remember to clean the parts first even if new. then have to wipe down several times with wax and grease remover. Most used parts have seen armor all or other conditioners or silicone's in mold releases on new parts and this has to be removed or vinyl paint wont stick to it. You haven't seen ugly until you have seen vinyl paint peeling off. on my Bronco I wanted green rear seat armrests going from factory Blue armrests. the upholstery guy made me vinyl green covers to glue over the stock arm rests. they aers a pain it the ass to apply but it matched the seats he made me.

Appreciate your mentioning about thoroughly cleaning the part, I’m planning on buying new arm rests and plastics trim pieces from one of the vendors.

Just did this for my rear seats. Getting ready for the front arm rests.

Pretty happy and followed the details mentioned. Remember many light coats are much better than fewer heavy ones.

Wow! That looks amazing. Can tell me the paint brand and color that you used?

I've had good results using aerosol vinyl dye, not paint. Pretty sure it was SEM. Got it from NPD.
Follow their directions. They must be clean, clean, clean. Just mist it on. Multiple coats.
I'd start with the parchment ones vs a darker color. Easier to cover.

Yep, use the dye. I also used the vinyl cleaner prep, I think I got them all from Holley Performance Products.
