Painting gorilla flares

I searched for paint options but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I bought a project truck with black gorilla flares, but they are scratched up.

I would like to paint with truck/bed liner. Anyone ever tried this? What preparation should I take to paint?

The paint shop painted mine when they painted my truck. They used a hotrod paint that is grainy, but a lot finer than bed liner. I would think they would be painted the same as the new plastic bumpers.

The prep on them is the same as a raw plastic bumper like on a Nissan or Toyota. For Spies you scuff with a grey pad and plastic prep which cleans the mold release agents. Then wash with water to reduce static electricity, apply bumper primer, flash then paint.
I wouldn't use bedliner material on the flares. The flares will out flex the bedliner and crack or peel off. There is a texture that you can add to the paint to get a texture similar to plastic parts on a car but it won't be like a bedliner.

I know they can be painted. Just think about all the plastic bumper covers on new vehicles. Not sure about bedliner because it tends to dry a little tuffer than paint. I would contact the liner manufacturer and ask if you can add a flex additive to their mix. If you can then it should be fine. If not I would spray them with bulldog adhesion promoter after prep and then paint them with flex added to the paint.

Listen to Allen--

Here is what I did-- use wax and grease remover degrease, use TSP to clean, red scotchbrite, TSP, red scotchbrite, TSP, red scotchbrite-- wax and grease remover, shoot--did that two years ago and in constant AZ sunshine since-- no problem-- put Bull dog in the paint and clear. If you have any weird shit happen in the clear stage put some color back in the clear-- hides everything perfect. Not sure how often Allen puts color in the clear for blending but it worked great for me in a pinch.

My flares are the older I'd call fiber glass flares and I sprayed them with Krylon bed liner.
Been on them for going on 7 years now and works fine for me.
