Do I need a special tool to remove? Trying to prepare myself for the unexpected. They look as old as the Bronco (69). Dana 30 front / typical 9" on rear. The guy at the auto parts store sold me two different looking seals. HELP !!! Looks serious if I can't get the old seals out. National Seal part number 5778 and 7044na. I got them at O'Reillys. Thanks

No special tool is needed to remove the actual seal. Once it's out you can compare to the new ones and make sure you install the correct one.

This assumes, of course, that you already know how to correctly remove the pinion nut and yoke, and reinstall.

Hey Steve. Remove the four nuts, that hold u joint to yoke. Remove the big nut that holds yoke on. Remove / replace pinion seal. This should cure my leak? I damn sure hope so. Sheet metal man has and opening and I can't bring it leaking. Should I use the same old nut or replace with new one. Am I missing anything else. Oh, what about the torque on the nut. The reason I am asking is I have never done this before. I figure ask the experts first.

In order:

Remove the 4 nuts/u bolts and the driveshaft.
Mark the nut and pinion somehow so you can line them back up.
Remove the pinion nut, counting the turns it takes to remove it.
Remove the yoke.
Remove the old seal.
Put new seal in.
Clean and inspect the sealing area on the yoke. Polish as needed.
Reinstall yoke.
Reinstall nut, making sure you put it back on the same number of turns it took to take it off and line up the marks.
Reinstall driveshaft.

Done!

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. Is the seal difficult to remove? It looks as if its been there a while / years. It is a '69. Someone told me about a seal puller at the parts store.

Seal puller isn't needed. A big screwdriver will work fine. You're not trying to save the old seal, just get it out and throw it away.
