Plastic tanks vs. 23 gallon tank

Hey fam,

I'm going to replace my fuel line and tanks due to rust. Question is, what is a better investment; 23 gallon fuel tank or plastic reproduction of the original? My rig is built to stock but I'd like to upgrade where it makes sense.

As always, you've got to include cost as a factor. Appreciate the input.

Thanks

Some of us do not drive our eb's that often.
They may sit for quite awhile. I have had my TBP poly tank for about 12 years and it has been quite comforting to know that it cannot rust.
It has never leaked.
Inexpensive and fit my needs well.
I will have to admit with only about 13.5 gallon capacity I visit the gas stations pretty often. This is where that 23 gallon tank shines....and it "is" galvanized in and out....it "is" a tough decision isn't it?

Not sure about the 23 gal tanks out there now but they used to be lined. If they are not you can easily do it. Cost may limit you tho as the 23 gal tanks have gotten pricey vs a stock tank. While the 23 gal tank may cost more I think they are worth it. You get extended range and over time you may actually recoup a little of the extra cost as you can fill up when gas is cheaper and drive longer on that cheaper gas. of course if you dont drive it often then the smaller tank may be more in line with your needs.

If you think fuel injection is in the cards then think seriously on the 23 gallon tank.

Great feedback guys. I didn't even consider how much I would drive (which is not a lot).

Also, is it best to replace the Aux tank? I know its poly but with all the rust and enamel, I just want a fresh start. What do you think?

The stock Aux tank is poly and it rusts out. Sounds oxy-moronic, but the filler tube is still metal. When I pulled mine to troubleshoot, it had rusted out leaving what sounded like an entire beach worth of pebble inside the tank when i pulled it, the fresh gas was oil brown and nasty looking. replaced my main tank, which was actually in great shape comparatively with a 23 gallon mainly because I drive mine all the time.

I plan on replacing the aux tank with a poly tank for cost reasons only.

My Bronco is basically stock also. Last year I put in a TBP 23 gallon and a new poly aux tank. I was on the fence about the 23 gallon for a long time but I'm happy I did it. I do a few trips into the mountains every year and the extra range brings a lot of peace of mind and flexibility.
