Looking to swap a Dana 44 with disc brake in my 66 with the stock 170 motor. My question is does the 170 6cly make enough vacuum to make the brake booster work correctly ?
Thanks Robert

Yes a 170 will make enough vacuum. one of the good things about adding a vac booster to a 170 bronco is you dont have to use the bronco specfic booster.

That was actually going to be my next question . How much of a big deal would it be to install power steering with a 6cly ?

I have a extra 76 power steering box but not sure what brackets are needed for a 6cly . I have the needed brackets for a V8 ?:?
Or is powersteering really needed ? I only plan to run 31/10.50x15s

Power steering is pretty simple on a straight six. I used a 4x4x2 box instead of a Bronco box on mine. I used the mounting bracket that BC Broncos sells and a saginaw "canned Ham" Steering pump. You will need a dual groove pulley and damper. You can buy a add on pulley for the damper for about $40-50. For the water pump pulley I used one from a Ford Fairmont ( I used a 1981). This required me to use the later (Long Nose) water pump from the fairmont. I also run 31x10.50's and power steering was one of my favorite upgrades.

Just a little add on you will probably need to fab up some brackets to mount the pump on a 170 even with a mounting bracket.. but it shouldnt be to bad.

I did that as well, An easy way to do it is to use a saginaw pump bracket from a ford van. Its steel so you can weld on it, just set your offset to match your pulleys and your set.

Curious about this comment. The damper and pulley are an integrated piece on a 170/200 engine. I've converted two 6-cyl Broncos to power steering and have always had to find a dual groove damper. Do you have a link to the add on pulley?

I think BC offeres an I6 power steering pump bracket.

You don't need power steering to run hydroboost, but you do need a power steering pump. just route what should be the hydroobost to steering box high pressure line (now low pressure) back to the pump. You will have 2 return lines still.

Robert,

I used a Mustang bracket to add p/s to my 200 a few years ago. I like it over the BC bracket because the tensioner bracket is built it. Shouldn't be too hard for you to find with your Mustang connections.

You have to get one off of a car that came with the same motor, 60's-70's.
