power steering box gone bad??

went for test drive today for the first time since october.my steering didnt feel smooth.felt like there where spots of resistance.does this mean my steering box is bad??

Have you checked the fluid level? You could also have some seals starting to get bad or just some worn spots in the box but then again You might also consider that with your tire size it may just be a little more than a stock setup can handle.

If you have adjusted the screw/lock nut in the top of the box you may have it too tight. Steering gear wears mostly when the steering wheel is almost centered (driving straight down the road). If you have removed the slop in the box it will be too tight when making turns thus resistance. If no one has messed with the adjustment it just might be wear or?

Sounds like low fuild level or air in the system. It could also be a pump that is going bad. Is it still the stock pump?

yes,jacked it up added fluid and turned wheel several times and now is smooth.
